usally short throw shifters are atleast a 2 piece construction plus the base of the shifter is usally aluminium not kinda a bronze color'd metal.

factory shifters should have a rubber grommet. I took mine off and it leaves like a 3/4" hole. so thats a way you could tell. Look at your shifter in first gear, if its factory it will be level with the AC knobs, maybe even higher.

Yup. You take a picture of it, post it here, and we tell you exactly what you have.

A picture of the shifter handle is required. If you have the boot / shifter bezel off there might be an inscription of the brand on the handle. Also is the NVH grommet still in place on the trans tunnel? Does it look like it has been tampered with at all?

My Steeda shifter is aluminum and much stiffer than the stocker it replaced. I can take a photo of the stock unit tonight and post it for you to compare to.

Yeah, actually even the worst aftermarket shifters I've seen still have a nice, precision appearance; whereas the stock shifter has a cheap, crappy, cast garbage "just enough to get the job done" look. We'll need to look to see which brand it is, but seeing if it's stock or not should be a no brainer.

ANYTHING is better than stock. That's hardly a fitting way to describe a Pro5.0- easily one of the best shifters you can get. THE best, in my opinion- but between the top two (Pro5.0 and Steeda Tri-Ax) the best is really user preference. That may be top three soon, as the MGW piece is generating some great reviews, but it isn't in anywhere near enough cars yet to be on that pedestal even if it deserves it. Regardless, rest assured that if you have more than just the shift lever, you have the one prefered by more class winning drag racers (of Mustangs AND F-bodies) than any other shifter made.

even a shifter made out of a milk carton with cooked egg white's and a widdle'd piece of wood from uncle Jessie Duke would be a better shifter than a wet noodle stock one.

anyone using a MGW what handle are you using. Mine came with the orange one but I bought a blue one and a red one off ebay so I can find the one I like best.

its a good shifter. one of the shortest throws of any shifter i believe. If you miss 3rd gear with that shifter you better give the keys to your mustang to your wife. If you don't have a wife then give em to your mom.

My mom took my car for a ride as soon as I brought it home from buying it. She came back all white and shaky and said "should I kiss you good buy now or later that thing is fu-ckin fast". And to this day she won't drive it. But my Dad likes to steal it on me and is thinking about looking for one.

As long as he brings it back with a full tank let him take it when he wants.
