I'm trying to install a Roush short throw shifter in my 04 GT but I can't seem to get the old shifter plate to come off the top of the transmission. Any advice would be great.

The first time you take them off they are pretty well stuck on.

Remove the 4 bolts and then use a screwdriver and carefully pry the edge. I think I got mine off by shifting through the gears or neutral from side to side real quick. It was stuck on there though and took some effort

+1 Might wanna use a putty knife or something as a screw driver blade is sorta thick to squeeze in between the transmission and shifter base when there is only a thin layer of RTV separating them.

Take the advice above and after taking everything apart, put the shift handle back with the shift knob on and try to use that to shake the base loose as you will have alot more leverage that way. Sometimes a rubber mallet could be useful if the RTV sealant is that tough. Good luck

+1 Definately use the shift handle for leverage. It should come off with a few good pulls.

I've done a few of these stock removals now, and what I've found works the best is clamping a pressure plier to the base of the stock shifter and then applying pressure DOWN in the plier. Works every time.

Pry bar did it for me. I worked all four sides and all four corners, and I eventually got it up.

One good sideways smack while in neutral should jar it loose. I just hit mine REAL hard with my fist and it broke loose.
