I was wondering who here has bought a newer more applicable shortblock in place of the stock to put in a supercharger...I was looking at Modular Depots shortblocks and they range from 3500-5000..i was wondering are there better deals and bettershortblocks period...what does everyone think for a 02 Auto GT..

You cant go wrong with a VT, DSS, or Coast high performance built short block.

In MM&FF they gained 18hp just by switching to a DSS built short block, and all other stuff (including compression) was the same. And that wasnt even with using the lighter weight pistons that they have available.

whats the benefit of using a mph block over just installing the forged bits in your current motor ?

baseline, you're going to pay upwards of $3k for a built shortblock. installation should be around $1000 - $1500 to pull the motor and completely re-assemble it but every shop is different. then, while the engine's apart, what else are you going to want to do to it? if you're taking the heads off anyway, you might as well get them ported. if you're taking apart your heads, you might as well put in cams. with all this being done, you're going to need headers and a better clutch. the whole thing can turn into a $10k project real quick.

the benefit of using a built shortblock from mph or vt or dss or chp over just putting in your own forged parts is that those guys hand build blocks all day, every day. they know exactly how to put it together and balance it to get it right. if you're an expert, you might save some money doing it yourself. personally, i'll leave surgery for the surgeons.

He speaks the truth...good rule of thumb, what you are thinking you want and guesstimate how much it is, double it and that'll put you in the ballpark of actual costs (keep in mind all the little things mentioned above)

Should make 500 RWHP when done.
