Shortcuts for fan shroud install????

ok guys, just got the new fan shroud in, read the directions and it says i have to take the radiator out and drain it and take the hoses off to! this seems like a little much just to install a dang fan shroud. Do any of u have any shortcuts that would save me the trouble of draining the radiator and taking it completely out of the car, i have no idea what to do? thanks

Install it with the radiator in the car........The only reason I would see in taking it would be cus its easier to bolt the shroud on that way, but in the long run, you have to do a tun more. Fit the shroud around the fan, if you cant take the fan off. Bolt up the shroud and reinstall the fan.

It should only take 5-10 minutes to take the radiator out. It's fast and easy. You want to go a little careful and easy working around the radiator because it's easy to damage fins and reduce the cooling.

I think you should follow the directions.

ok so if i go the taking the radiator out way, how do i drain it and how do i know how much antifreze and water to put back in? i was thinking unbloting the radiator so it was mobile, but not draining it, this migh work because the hoses are flexible so i can just slide the fan in??????? any suggestions?

Its easier to remove the radiator, than to R/R the fan... but one of them will have to be removed to get the job done. You should have a petcock valve on the radiator to drain it. If not, then let it drain by removing the lower radiator hose. The whole job should only take 30 minutes or so... If you try to work around the fan, without removing the radiator, it could easily take a couple of hours.

If you have an automatic, be sure to disconnect the transmission cooling lines.

i couldnt even get to my fan bolts with the radiator in.

Just remove it....use it as an excuse to flush your system. Wash out the radiator...im sure there is rust and soot in there....it will do your engine good!

As for anti freeze and water...you could get the premix stuff. I usually fill mine up 50/50

I put one on my 65 (289). All I had to do was remove the hoses and the overflow tube. I got the original style metal one. It took some time to work it in around the fan blade but quicker than taking the rad out. If you have the plastic shroud I think they are deeper so you probably will have to remove the rad.
