is it possible for with good welding skills to shorten a rear end with out having to take it to a machine shop. only one tube needs to be shortened. i know for the axle i would have to have a machine shop put the splines back on, but i am having a difficult time finding a shop that will shorten rear ends. if anyone lives in the eastern ky, western wv, or south eastern oh area knows a place that will do such, let me know... thanks

Whereabouts are you? Several years ago, there used to be a great driveshaft shop in Marietta OH that also happened to be pretty cheap :D I remember my dad stating that the also did rear ends. I can ask him about it if you're interested. We haven't owned a RWD vehicle in need of work for probably 10 years, so I wonder if that place is still open.

EDIT: I'm local to SE Ohio/Parkersburg area I'm sure I could find one.

my father is a professional welder so i wouldnt have any dobts about the welds, probably would have to make a dowel of some sort, or weld a sleeve arouond where the cut was made...i know a guy that is a machines that could respline the axle, my only problem with doing the tube my self is how to do it the right way...
