alright, ever since i got my '01 gt it seems to be reading higher than i'm actually going. there is no way that traffic is normally doing 85-90mph

My old '02 V6 seemed to be correct. The diff. cover on the v6 had a metal tag on one of the bolts with numbers on it.

my '01 gt doesnt have that tag on the cover. There is also hardened silicone around the bolt heads like someone took the cover off and sealed it back up with a lot of silicone.

i also jacked the rearend up and rotated the drive shaft. It took 3 3/4 turns of the drive shaft to turn the tire around 1 time, so from what i've read that means it has 3.73 gears???

here is how my speedo is reading

70mph = 3000 rpms in 4th gear
70mph = 2000 rpms in 5th gear
80mph = 2400 rpms in 5th gear

when i'm doing those speeds it seems as though i'm going much slower than that, as traffic is always passing me

Yes.

Now it's time to pick up a speedcal or a tuner. I'd do it ASAP b/c this also makes the odometer read high.

hmmm.....

here is something odd though.

i'm going down the highway and my odo reads correct if i'm going by the mile markers. as in, the mile markers show 1 mile between them, the odo registers that i've traveled 1 mile

Strange... maybe your speedo is off, like someone put new gauges on and put the needle back wrong?

it does have el white face gauges on there. but i checked with the digital readout from the odo that the needle matches. i'm gonna recheck the driveshaft and how many times it spins after work tonight but i'm almost positive the rearend has been opened up. I washed it a little today and saw that the silicone is blue and there was a lot of it around the heads of the bolts, unlike the black silicone and none around the heads on the bolts on my old '02 v6

It being opened doesn't imply a changing of gears. Get someone to drive along with you in another car, and coordinate speeds.

ok, i double checked it out. the driveshaft does rotate exactly 3 3/4 turns for each turn of the wheel.
and the odometer is about .3 miles off from what i could tell by the mile markers

You have 3.73, no doubt about it!
