Yes, it's me; the every confused 'almost' pony car buyer! :D I keep looking and can't make up my mind to save my life. Between V6 and GT, auto tranny or standard, it's all confusing. I've been trying to save my money for either a good down payment, or to just pay the house off for now.
Friday night fate almost intervened when I stopped by the local ford dealer. There up front in a special parking place was a yellow 06 Mustang with a mostly black hood with what looked like a GTR Ram Air hood. It also 'looks' like it has (adding disclaimer, because not exactly sure of the brand) Xenon side scoops, Xenon quarter window covers, Street scene ducktail, CDC black chin spoiler, and a black tail lamp panel cover which really makes the rear of the car look much better, IMHO.
Okay, the caveat? (hope I spelled that right) It's a V6 with a standard transmission. The seats are not leather. The price is set about mid 26 grand, about a thousand more than the cheapest GT there (Silver).
I'm used to the little V8 in my F-150, although no real powerhouse. Even though the V6 Mustang is probably faster than my truck though, I'm wondering if I would regret not waiting for a good GT to come along. Have not checked the insurance rates yet, but I'm an old fart with a fairly clean record, so that might not be much of an issue either way.
Anyway, sorry for the long story, just not sure what to do. Thanks for any advice.

P.S. Got my info on ponybuilder.com about the brands.
Also sorry about the added option of paying off house, but theoretically could pay it off in a couple of years at this rate if I don't buy another car.
P.S.S. Sorry, also forgot to mention that after talking to a rookie (no offense, he was just new) salesman, he went and talked to the manager and supposedly was told that they'd let me have it for $43,800 after rebates.

I'd wait for the right GT. I was lucky with my dealer, he was very knowledgeable about both cars. His question to me was..."what do you plan to do with it in a couple of years"? I said, "keep it, it's my dream car". He said go with the GT because it will hold it's value longer and I'd get more "bang" for the buck. I have'nt regretted the decision...when I want to play, I play and have a big a$$ grin on my face after.:D :hail2:

You said your an old duffer.. i dont know what that means agewize so i see the two following options:

1: invest in the house, *an appreciating asset*
the better investment monetarily

2: buy the GT( not v-6) *you will love it* everyday waking up and getting to drive it honestly puts a smile on my face at least. It allows you to enjoy life just alittle bit more.

so theres my advice, take it or leave it its just how you want to spend your money... just remember life is short ;)

Well, I'll be 44 this year, and that may not be old, but it sure feels old to me! And on remembering that life is short :( ...that's another thing that makes it all tougher, because my smarts (what little I have) are saying pay off the house first, but then I think about life being short!

Thanks for the advice, though!
