hello im looking at getting my first mustang. Im looking at a red 94 cobra with 27,000 miles. The car is bone stock down to the paper filter. How much would you guys pay for something like this? Only flaw i see in the car is the drivers leather seat is cracking on the outer area and one paint chip on the bumper. Also ive heard a lot of people say 94's are slow.. I drove the car but i didnt get a chance to really see what it was really made of.. they are asking about 9500 for the car. Am i better off getting a 96 and newer cobra? what are the pluses and minuses of this car thanks guys.. I know the 32v's are cool.

The 96 and up are faster (cobras not gt's gt's are the same cept 94-95 have 3 more tq)...but you'll never quite have the sound of a 5.0 out of a 4.6 in my opinion...the 4.6 sounds great...the 5.0 sounds awesome!! plus the 5.0 is less expensive to modify and the family involved in owning a 5.0 is much closer in my opinion...plus the 5.0 is a more legendary engine...just my two cents..

The 94-95 cobras are not worth the money. If you want a cobra, get a 96-98.

Yes, the 32V cars are cool.... but how much money would you wanna fork out to mod your car? Typically, the pushrod car will be easier and cheaper to do things to. The Modulars's may be faster in factory trim (Cobra's).... and modded vs. modded, the Modular still wins..... but plan on forking out tons of $$$$. Definitely don't get a 96-98 GT (P.O.S.)!!! I'd go with a 5.0 car. That is a little much for me on that car, but it does have really low miles..........

No. Different heads/cam/ and intake manifold. Differnet and computer as well.

The 96-98 4v cobras are the best sounding mustangs ever in my opinion. Even beats my cammed 5.0.

To me...9500 for that car, with that milage is a great deal....Its a kinda rare car actually, some day they will draw a premium price...last year of the 5.0 and a Cobra to boot...I tryed a 98 Cobra out last fall....47k, mint, original car for 12.7...they do go, but it seemed you had to really get some real estate to run it out...Nice car...no doubt...

i got back into my GT and theres alot of difference..sorta like comparing a Harley to and R1...a different kinda powerband...

The 5.0 is much easier and cheaper to mod...hands down..depends on your plans for the car...a well tuned 95 Cobra should be a mid 13 car...not to shabby....Throw some gears in it, dump the cats, throw some LTs/mid-pipe/catback and she should run purdy damn good...
for example..i have pretty much warmed over stock parts, damn near what that Cobra has for parts..i run mid 13s...my neice has a 95 Z/28 with the LT1 chipped/exhaust...we run about dead even, she takes me, then i'll take her...

On the other hand..take a 98 Cobra, throw some 410s in it, full exhaust and there a hoot to...i wouldnt wanna break it though...32 valves, o/head cams...thats the only thing that i looked hard at on the 98 i drove...gotta learn all over again...

im going back in and offering them 8k for it.Thats the private party value around my zip code and see what they say. Ive always wanted a 5.0 and i never wanted a gt, to many people have them so i guess this would be a good car for me to get.always liked cobras. I didnt realize they could push high 13's. my impression from driving it it was around a high 14's but i didnt really drive the car that much or get it past 4k. I think my old L98 had a bit more torque but i love the sound of this motor i think im hooked on the car

Theres nothing wrong w/ the 94-95 cobras dont know why some of you are dogging them . Try going out and finding a 96-98 cobra w/ 27K on it and have it be as cheap to mod as the 5.0........good luck

I weighed the same choices as you did dude. Several years ago when i was shopping but i was only looking for a cobra.
My impression after driving both.
i drove a 98 cobra vert.
nice car low miles sounds good nice power (on the upper end) didnt feel that grunt on the bottom end.
Drove the 95 cobra that i now own.
First imperssion wow lot of miles so after driving it I told myself. Self this car rides and drives like its brand new. Smooth power low end grunt good ride nice price but it had that one thing. The 5.0 sound and its dang cheap to mod and easier to work on myself. Wow what a perfect car couldnt ask for better than that.
The 98 vert. i drove was gone the same day after i got my 95 snake. In all i love my choice and dont regret it one bit.
This car will be in my family till i die.

While there are MANY more differences in the Cobra vs GT those are the resounding ones, it's a steal IMO, if I would have found that deal before mine, that car would be in my driveway right now.

Its hard to say this but in this case it has some merit.......................

Forget the money!!!

I'll list the rare things you've found:

A 94 Stang thats in great shape
A 94 Stang thats in great shape AND is a Cobra
27k miles on the clock
5.0 motor.... Forget that 96 and up BS you can find mod motored Stangs any where .................. there a dime a dozen

I stop at this point but ...................

THAT IS A VERY RARE FIND INDEED

Is it worth the price?

Only you can decide.

umm....I haven't regretted paying more for a cobra yet...

...anyway, $9500 is a damn good price for that mileage.

i also faced this choice three years ago... but i had a GTS and i wanted a car that wa fully loaded. I figured since i was gonna spend some more money, what's an extra grand or so for the top of the line mustang?> I found my car with quite a few bolt ons already on it and that almost scared me off, but ive loved it since the day i bought it. Once i decided that i wanted a cobra - there was no question that it would have to be a 94-95... so much easier to work on, and i'd built 302's before.

i just swapped the cam last weekend in less than 14 hours and it only cost me 300 bucks... cams for my buddies 99 cobra are 1300+

you can't go wrong with a snake.... the car turns head everywhere i go... EVERYWHERE... gas stations, drive-throughs, cops (but that's just because of the one chambers - you can hear me coming from blocks away)

to me, the difference between the GT and the cobra is a bunch of little upgrades that turn out one sweet car...

buy it and you wont regret it... JMO

to settle this little deal about 4.6 and 5.0...4.6 sohc (gt) is less than the 5.0...the 5.0 is less than the dohc (cobra) 4.6...there...that being said buy the freaking cobra..it is an awesome car and once you have done a few little mods to it you will understand and you will never look back..believe me I am no liar..

BTW, 5.0+cam+1chambers-cats=best sounding car on the road.

but i will still probably buy a 97 cobra vert someday, or maybe even my buddies 99... nah, he drives the hell out of that car.
