Okay, well I have a chance to pick up a hardly used IRS for like $750. My question is this....how much weight will it add to my car? Are we talking an addition of 50lbs, 75lbs? I know I would need a new driveshaft, but what else would I really need to complete the swap. Its straight out of an 04 cobra, and has all the parts and all the hardware intact. I just wanted to get some opinions on this before I drop the cash, or should I just save up for something else.

Oh, and would I need new exhaust as well?

you will need the exhaust as well.. it is routed completely different. do you plan to run twisties?? if so, get it! if you street or drag race don't bother as thats why the Cobra owner has taken it off.. usless with DR's and slicks and very expensive to upgrade the parts on it to make it stronger.

you can probably find a guy with an 03-04 cobra who would swap with you(your straight axle for his IRS)..

I was also considering the IRS swap with a guy with a cobra. I had no idea it was 200lbs and I dont want to switch my pipes. Probably better off getting steedas 5 link II set-up.

The whole Irs consists of a decent amount of parts right...so you will actually use it to replace of pre-existing parts which would actually cancel out the weight gain?

my guess is less than 100 increese. if you are lookin to drag launch more than 550 hp w/ slicks you might want to keep your hard axel. the benefits of the irs are not that many but its a kool thing to have.

You'd never be able to safely run slicks with IRS...I say forget about it.

Well, I dont plan on putting 500 hp to the ground or anything. Mods are in sig, and Im still on street tires. I have been thinking about getting some nittos, but now I am confused about the whole thing. My car is a street car, but will see some track time this summer....

Although, my car is already heavy as a beast, so maybe I should skip the IRS for now.

EDIT: Oh, the one mod thats not in my sig, 100 wet shot
