A friend of mine has a 94 GT Convertible just like mine but his is 5-speed. He has decided to sell it and I asked him if would trade me trannys. He said he would do pass it over if I paid for everything( ). I'm really thinking about it. Would I have to buy anything else or everything I need is there? Should I do it? I mean, stick is so *****%ng fun to drive. I also know that the tranny eats less hp and can possibly take more than an aode. I've had both and love driving stick but love driving aode since I don't have to worry about shifting when doing something else. Also, with a stall and the shift kit I have, it will be a pretty decent tranny. What do you all think? Should I go for it? Give me pros and cons if you have any.

i dunno, stock t-5s won't handle too much of a load, nothin stock, is designed to survive very long under race abuse,(except maybe the 03 cobra)

by my estimates this AODE eats about 30 horses an tq. buddy of mines 94-5 spd, w/catback only, dynoed in right at 195 h, 203 tq.-my AODE catback, c/a, bumped timing, 3:73's only netted about 165- 235.-talk about starting out in a hole.

theres lots of avenues open.
5-spd swap, performace auto, (c-4, lentech) but imo, a sports car has 3 pedals
i'm w/ ya on the fun to drive tho, nothin beats rowin the gears in 5.0.-next one i get WILL be a 5-6 speed.

I swapped mine over a while ago, go for it, much more fun to drive, I think. If you are going for a straight up swap with your friend all of the parts will be there, only new stuff you would want are seals (tailshaft, rear main, and a pilot bushing) and probably a clutch/flywheel depending on your budget and the condition of those pieces. While you're at it drop some cash on a new shifter, well worth it. I did it in my driveway alone, took a few hours. Hardest part was getting that heavy AODE out of the way. Good Luck

the swap to the t5 is the best thing i ever did to my car. i say go for it. as far as the aode that is STILL sitting in my garage, i think i may have finally sold it for $200 with the converter. hopefully it goes through.

I've heard that when switching trannys I need to get a new computer as well. Is this true?

The car will run if you don't swap computers, but not 100% When I swapped my tranny I waited a few days for the comp., just because that was the last thing to do and the easiest and I wanted to get rolling again, car seemed to cut out when I tached it out, I think it thought it was being overrevved. Swapped computers, good to go Piece of cake, it's just under the pass. side kick panel, unbolt it then bolt the new one in. Go for it, Good Luck

the car will not run right. whenever it reaches the point on the tach where it would change gears, the car will hesitate (the automatic computer pulls timing during shifts). another alternative to a 5spd computer is a chip. any chip maker can easily remove the automatic transmission functions. i did the swap myself last year, so if you have any questions at all, feel free to ask.

How much can this swap be done for if the labor is done by you? I would rather build up HCI than switch to a t-5, and I have only about 1700.

I have a AODE Trans thats Built and I love it. Never thought id say i like autos though. But im very happy with mine. If I ever convert it will be to a 6 speed not a 5 speed.
But Do what you want to do. If you want the t-5 Then go for it. ITs all in what you want to do

I did this swap myself and i also traded my buddy for his trans in exchange for me doing all the labor, i only paid for a pro 5.0 shifter as he had an a/z lifetime clutch oh and a cable and quadrant, i did it all for like $200.00 but you are going to have fun making the five speed into an auto as the tranny tunnels aren't the same, when you convert to 5 speed, you just trim a little away, but when you make an auto, you must severly modify the tunnel!!!!!!!!

Did you "build" it your self or do you get it built? I am wanting to get a built aode but not sure how much cash I am looking at spending. I have a feeling it is going to be above 1k. Am I right?
looks like 1.5k or more
