Just got done rebuilding this T-5 WC. I put a Master rebuild kit in and new 2nd and 3rd gears. The kit included EVERYTHING, I got it from D and D Performance. So should I keep it and toss it in the car for a while or sell it? What a basically new tranny worth? This one is rated at 300 ft lbs of torque, its not the earlier one. Any input?

Professionally rebuilt T5's seem to go between $400ish-$750ish, sometimes with exchange. Being a "non-professional" I don't know if you'd get top dollar, but I would certainly figure it's probably worth at least $300 -- maybe more.

lol...well I have 370 in parts alone in it, and pro motion gives 150 for cores that are trashed. so i wouldnt even consider selling it for less than 600. they go on ebay for 750 up all day long

once you put it in the car it will be used and prolly not worth as much if you were to sell it.

The parts that make the cores worthwhile are the case (obviously), the input shaft and gears. The rest is basically parts that get replaced anyway. Places will pay that much if all that is good, as they can just put a little money into the soft parts and be done with it. If you replaced any of those parts -- you wouldn't have gotten $150 for what you had to start with.

I also would never pay $750+ for a tranny like that -- considering what you can buy a brand new z-spec tranny for -- and what I've paid for them in the past ($400 for one freshly built, $100 for a pair of ones that needed rebuilt, I don't remember others). The shops around where I just moved from would get about $600ish for ones that were freshly built. With that said, if you can get $600 for it -- go for it, but I personally don't think you will -- which is what you asked.

From the orginal post it seems you are leaning a little towards selling it, from this statement it seems you know how much you want to sell it for. So WTF are we doing here? Put it up for sell if you get the 600+ you have a deal if not you have a another tranny.

Ebay is your friend.

From the looks of that tranny, you seem to have taken your time with it. The thing is, with a rebuilt trans with 0 miles, nobody can really tell how good of a job you did.

But i've seen used T-5s go for $600 on ebay, so i would guess you could make even more with that.

Thanks for all of your input. Around here they go for quite a bit. 750+ for a junkyard tranny with no gaurantees! I guess it all depends on your area. I am going to keep it for a while and run it. then I will be getting a TKO 600. I took my time and did a great job rebuilding it. Not that I m a pro or anything but I am no buffoon either. The preload is perfect and it feels awesome shifting it on the bench. I thought of making it a z spec but the 295 gears have been backordered for like two months so i went stock with it.

New units are $1100 shipped free and new units always seem to last longer than rebuilds for some reason. For $350 more I think it is worth the wait in most cases. My problem is I want the 3.27 1st gear and not the 2.97 so my options are slim without spending $1400
