I have an AODE. I always drive with it on, when I turn it off, it feels like I lose power. Do I lose power? or is it just all in my head.

Just to put it in Lamen's terms: Will I do better with o/d on or off during a race? (I know it's not good to be at wot with o/d on in 4th gear)

When I drive around town I leave my OD on. And when I race I turn it off. That is a must.

So you don't lose any power with it off right? You just don't 4th gear.

To my knowledge, all the O/D button does is disable the overdrive gear. I've tried hitting the button at any speed, light or hard acceleration, and there was no difference. If I was in overdrive, the tranny immediately downshifted. I didn't lose any power in any other gear.

Should you never try a top speed test on an AODE mustang then? Because when I have done it before, at WOT it will shift into OD because my 3rd gear has run out. Or by not going in WOT mean you need to back off for the shift, then get back in it? Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would not want to use OD at WOT period. I drive around with it off till i get on the highway, etc.

Some of the guys at TCCoA are thinking of making and selling a box which would default the trans to have OD off upon start-up (first thing many guys do when they start the car is turn OD off).

That is just how I drive (I have 3.55's, so I am good till around 45 mph, which is ~2200 RPM or so, IIRC).
I dont like to rev higher than that for a sustained period (but allowing it to be in OD at that point causes lugging around at 1500 RPM or less, which sucks).

I leave OD on for regular driving. I turn it off for racing for the reasons already stated, plus, the car is quicker to respond from a roll with OD off.

haha today, I was cruising at about 50 and I turned o/d off and it scared the **** out of me. I thought the tranny gave out, but was just down shifting, lol.

There is nothing wrong with an aode/4r70w that is built right. I'm only building one for my 418.

I really don't mind it, I just liked driving my old 95GT w/a t-5 more. The shift kit made it much more fun though, and once I get some 3:90's, you won't hear me complaining.

Wow ever since I started turning my o/d off, it feels like my car is A LOT faster. I mean I just tap the gas at 50 and before I know it, I'm going 80. Cruising at 60, my rpm is 3.5k. Insane!! But I know this will kill my gas mileage.

I usually keep my OD off for around town driving and turn it on when needed. The OD band is supposed to be the weakest part so that's why I do this.

When it's off and I'm cruising at 60, my rpms are at 3.5k. I'm guessing this is hurting my gas mileage?

Yeah, cruising at 3500 rpms is definately not gas mileage friendly.
