Should I use Tri-Y Headers on my 347?

I ended up purchasing Doug's Tri-Ys after reading all the responses from the members here and on another forum where I posted the same question. I am using a hydraulic clutch so I purchased the headers for an automatic since I didn't need to worry about clearing the Z-bar. The headers fit perfect!

Perhaps the key to your success is purchasing for an auto-tranny. When I bought t set of Tri-Ys in 1995, I was running a C4 up until 2009, when I converted to a T5z and using the " Z" bar system. I guess they hang a little lower(?).
Have any pics of your Doug version. I'd like to see them. Just in case my "evaporate" some day.

placed my order from summit today. along with a ton of other stuff, Should be some big boxes coming this week, although I took the flowmaster header back system off the list, not sure what I wanna do fromthe headers back yet.

Here are the pics you wanted. My uncle did the install and he said that the headers went in very smooth. He was able to install them with the motor in the car but had to jack up the motor on the drivers side slightly to get the header in. The fit perfectly right into place and didn't require any convincing with a hammer. The headers fit snug up againt the floor. In fact, the tranny sits lower to the ground then the headers.

Hi,

Thanks for the pics , I think you guys will be very happy with them and they should last a lifetime.
Mine have been in regular use since spring of 2004. I bought them new and were coated from new. In 2006, I re-coated them to shine them up a bit. They make good sence and great power for a street warrior.

Hi,
You did bring up an important point. That is, to break them in slowly. I'v experienced, if they get too hot to quick or you have a lean condition, the coating will over heat and dis-color. This has happened to me just after building, or, re-building an engine and not yet tuning the carb mixes.

I have the ceramic coated Dougs tri y in my for 2 years. They cleared the cable clutch fine and they look brand new still. Love these headers.
