I am interested in getting shoulder belts for my 'stang but was wondering what is the best way of doing this? I see they are $250 for the kit but that just seems like a lot. Is this the best way or is there an alternative that works?...like ripping them out of another car? Who has done this?
Thanks

I've done a 3 point belt conversion on my Mach in '03. I bought the belts new from Southern Rods & Parts for $120, including mounting kit and shipping. The belts are OE quality and look the exact same as the ones all the Mustang suppliers are selling.

It was an easy conversion for my '70, but your '65 will be a bit trickier. See if you can view some others' conversions first for ideas.

Good luck!

I bought the same belts as t_Chelle16. They are really nice! and cheap. Just as good quality and appeaeance as the expensive ones. Install them just as shown on t_Chelle16s post. I replaced my headliner since it was old. Don't know if you can do it w/o damaging old headliner:D

I bought 2 of these at Southern Rods:

There is a hole for the shoulder anchor, but there is not thick enough metal. I cut a four steel plates about 3 inches long and drilled and tapped a 7/16 hole for the main anchor bolt and two smaller holes on each side to secure them with small flathead screws.
I then fished it up the C pillar with a piece of wire.

I did the same at the bottom, but I had to cut small holes under the sill plates to fish each of them in that area to secure the take up reels. I then patched up the holes.

They have been working great for about five years now.

Could you just post the write up on this thread with pics if you have them.
I took most of the details from James W's website - not sure what it is - i looked for it. He's usually on Mustang Steve's forum. If can find the link I can post it.

Summary - I used Wesco as my supplier for the belts and hardware. The key attached for the belts is at the top. My fastback had an oval opening where I slid the attachment anchor into and set it under the roof sheet metal. I drilled a hole that matched where the nut in the anchor would be when it was in it's final set place. I JB welded the anchor plate behind the roof sheetmetal (not big deal since the bolt and anchor nut would take all the force). I'll try to find that link as my words do not do justice to the installation.

Sorry no pics as the vehicle is getting it's new 331 broken in at the shop.
