Shredding drive belts

Hi I have a 2005gt and just fitted a Saleen charger with a 3.0 pully but keep shredding belts due to belt slip, only after 20 miles i need a new belt. Any ideas how to cure this problem cheers Nick

Can you use a larger idler pulley to reduce slack in the belt.

I agree belt slack is mot likely your problem, you should try to find a shorter belt. Call Saleen and see what they say.

If you look at your tensioner, does it sit right in the middle of its possible arc of travel, or is it more to one side or another? If you're too slack the tensioner will not be dead center. This happened to me with the Vortech on my big car. I had he wrong belt and it was way too slack and it slipped all the time. After getting the proper belt length my problems went away.

My 05 Mustang is saleen supercharged also, and I haven't had any issues like that. Are you using the proper sized belt that Saleen recommends that you use? Do you have any slack in the belt itself? If belt itself isn't loose, it could be an alignment issue with one of your pullies (most likely one of the idler pullies).

I run the stock one with no issues for a year , just some slip on trackdays .
I replaced recently with the HD steeda , for I'm planning some course racing this spring .

Check your tensioner , especially the stop - my whipple needed the stopper to be chipped away for more load (frpp whipple manual) : we did it on SC install and no problems .

My belt is ok for now , but I always have the spare one in the trunk ...

I will be bringing my car to JDM this spring at some point to get a smaller pulley and a tune; they recommend the Roush tensioner arm with their upgrades. The stock unit flexes and causes the belts to get shredded. They work almost entirely with Saleen stuff, with Roush cars making up a smaller amount of their business.

The belt i am running now is a goodyear gaterback 4061065 and slipped from the moment i put it on when the car is put under any pressure.

The belt that first came with the super charger was a gates micro v K061066 this belt lasted about 2 hundred miles before one of the 6 strands stripped and started to slip.

The belt runs at the back of the tensioner pully. And it is the back of the belt that strips off . I have checked the A/c pully and that appers to be in line with the crankshaft pully. I think I will get the steda tensioner and also try to get a gates belt, it a bit hard to get these as they are no stocked in the Uk where i'm from.

The Roush tensioner is a good piece. I use it on my car with zero problems.

On a side note, Saleen is out of business.
