:shrug:Roller rockers driving me nutts!

I spent all weekend replacing my lifters , then i adjusted the rockers to spec , everything to spec. Took it around the block and the rockers were clacking like crazy again. Pulled the valve covers , tightened them down again. Took it around the block again and it seemed like even more of them were clacking! The motor is also making really low power. I'm running a trick flow h/c/i with 4:10's and i cant even break the tires loose. I'm really getting frustrated. Also , i dont know if it has anything to do with it , but when i came back from my last test run the motor was stuck at 2500rpms. Please help me!

sounds like a vaccum leak to me.make sure you have on all the proper gaskets when installing new parts. and check for work or cracked vaccum lines.

this should help you locate the lines for inspection.

What exactly do you mean, when you say that you adjusted the rockers to spec? What specs are you going by?

I went by the specs in the haynes manual for the 5.0 ho motor , then while the motor is running i would back off until i heard a clatter , then tighten it 3/4's of a turn, then crank down the allen key. Now when i try to adjust them the motor will run fine , then 2 minutes later the idle will jump and just shoot oil everywhere and i have to shut it down.

It sounds like you're adjusting them wrong. The Haynes manual has specs for the factory pedestal mount rockers, not stud mount like the TFS heads. You need to find zero lash when the engine isn't running, then turn 1/2-3/4 turn and tighten down the allen screw.

So u are saying to make all of the rockers tight while then engine is off? How tight should they be? Just make them so that there is no movement then another half turn? Also , behind the lower intake near the fire wall on the block , there is a small whole the size of a pen, it looks like it had sealant around it , but now there is nothing there , and i cant find anything that looks like it should fit there. If i stick something in the hole there is oil there. Thanks for the help , i am really frustrated.

turn the push rod as your tighten the rocker, when the push rod gets hard to turn stop tightening and do a fingal 1/2-3/4 turn and tigthen the allend screw. Also make sure the valve is fully closed and the lifter is on the circle of the cam.. and not the pointed lobe.

I dont want to sound dumb , but how do i know when the lifter is in the circle of the cam? I just want to finally get this right!

Cant find the vacuum leak , i sprayed everything with starting fluid ,and i cant find it. The idle just goes up and down on its own. I am boiling mad. Boarder line ready for the for sale sign.

Wasnt a vacuum leak , i changed out the tps , the idle is fine now. Does that sound right? Now back to adjusting the rockers. Thanks again guys!
