Shuts off when put into third

alright well this isnt for my car, but a friend is looking at a foxbody with some mods. the owner told him everything was alright but when he puts it into third gear, the car shuts off. ive never heard anything like this before, anyone know what it could be? how much to fix it? thanks

that aint right at all. i guess if he was going like 5 mph and put it in 3rd. unless 3rd gear is seized up and causing the tranny to lock up....but i dont really see that happening. tell him to take it for a test drive. or just put the car on jack stands in the rear and put it in 3rd and turn the motor over by hand and see if it turns over. i would say drive it while its on jackstands but i dont want it to jerk violently and fall off the jackstands and one of the jackstands go through the quarter panel or the gas tank...so dont do that

yeah ive never heard of anything like this either, any other possible reasons?

I would take a look at the wiring under the car that goes to the trans. Go ahead and unplug anything that's plugged into the trans right now then see what happens. (If the car won't start make sure you didn't unplug the jumper wire that bypasses neutral safety switch) Also pull all the covers to the shifter and make sure there isn't somesort of funny wiring going on that's laying on the shifter and getting pinched in 3rd.

Was this originally an automatic car that's been converted to manual?

I'd check the wiring like said above. Also check to see if there is some sort of alarm wiring or kill switch stuff thats been put on the car to kill it in case its broken into. They might have got the wiring for it screwed up.

could be third ger seized but wow that would be a first...
probably electrical issue

It must be an auto...
The manual computer has no idea if the car is in gear, let alone what gear.
