alright, im in the market for a new exhaust system for my v6. the side exhaust w/ the side skirts that have the holes in them for the exhaust looks very nice, but the regular duals would work too. any input on this, what is gonna give me more power, or better sound and what not. ive heard people say side exhaust is nice because when you are driving, you are closer to your pipe and can hear it better, but it is a bit more expensive. and another question is what about bolt-on exhaust systems?, a friend of mine from school has a '00 2.2L S-10 and he got an exhaust system for his truck and it was a bolt-on, and he had problems w/ the bolts rattling loose, does this happen often w/ bolt-on systems?

thanks!

I had a 2000 V6 Mustang and bought a Borla side exhaust kit for the GT and a Pacesetter H pipe. I brought it in to the exhaust shop and they managed to mess it all up. I ended up with straight pipes from the cats back and the exhaust tips would make a weird rattle after the car come to a stand still. Other than that I liked the look and the sound was good while accelerating and it got a lot of looks. I just bought a 2004 Mach 1 two days ago but I was going to replace the exhaust kit if I hadn't sold it. I would put up a pic but I guess the file is too big and I don't have time to crop it right now. I would have just boughted the kit for the V6 but at the time it was like $400 more. Hope that helps somewhat. Just becareful were you bring it to get it installed after your shell out lots of money for a kit.

98 stang guy:

You'll have pro's and cons with just about every mod you do. So ultimately it comes down to true performance. I have heard numerous times throughout this board alone that side exhaust decreases horspower. I bought a Bassani Catback (bolt on) and love it. No bolts rattling loose. And sound is GREAT!. Good luck.

Well, I got the Borla dual kit and I love it. If you're not blasting your music it will be loud enough for you... If you're concerned more about sound get the flowmaster, cause it'll sound really angry. I have the same funny rattle after a full stop too... must be something with the layout under there.
oo! and while you're at it, go for a nice intake like a BBK or something, also a nice sound and gives you a more responsive throttle. (Mine goes out through the fenderwall so it's good and cold, and sounds sweet)

On the topic of exhaust, does the 94-98 stalker rear have rectangular or circlular exhaust cut outs?

What do you guys think of a Custom O/R X-pipe setup with these borla mufflers on a side-exhaust setup?
