simple 3g question

i have a 88 tbird with a 5.0 not to fast but i put 2 3g alts on it 1 for the car and 1 for stereo on the second one could i just put the green and red wire to the bat stud to make it self exciting any help please

I believe it is possible on a 3G to make it "self exciting" , in other words, work without plugging it in to the vehicle harness. I can't remember exactly how but I think that you have to plug in the stator wire to one of the three prongs on the three prong plug spot and maybe run a wire from the back output lug to one of the three prongs also. Someone else might be able to make a diagram or try searching the forums more for someone running a 3G without the factory harness.

You dont really want the switch circuit hot at all times.

What I'd rather do: Find a switched 12 volt source and connect this to the I terminal on your regulator. Install a 500 ohm resistor in-series on your new wire.

Or just use your OEM switch wiring - it's pretty ubiquitious on Fords of recent years.
