I too wanted something considerably louder then what I had which was two chamber 40's. After building my motor there was a considerable amount of back pressure, so much so that my new motor would barely run. So I went straight down to the muffler shop (without enough money for new mufflers) and I had them yank out the 2 1/4 pipe meeting my headers and remove the 2" pipe after the mufflers. Then I had them install 2 1/2" from the headers back to the mufflers (same 2 chamber 40's) and then I had him install some 3" dumps turned so they point where my rear tires meet the ground.
I got just what I was looking for, much much louder and added a much deeper tone that just thunders. It gets a LOT of attention when I roll it into car shows and cruise-in's. No one can believe it's just a built 289. They all laugh like I'm joking with them as if I don't want to tell them what the engine really is.
Long story shorter, 2 chambers can be really loud depending on how free flowing you make your pipes and larger diameter pipes make a deeper tone. Give it some thought and see what you can do to make your pipes as straight as possible for a louder sound.
