Who's tried this already and lives to talk about it?
I want to try it this weekend and was wondering how many runs to expect.
Is it possible to launch at w/o dumping the clutch @ low rpms (3K) w/o bogging?
I figure if I bust them I will replace them but I want to arrange a ride home ahead of time and at least give them a shot. :D

Don't do it at Cecil County. I know. :D

It was a 3500 RPM launch at 14 PSI and a 2nd gear burnout with a line lock. I thought I was 'taking it easy' too. I ended up bending one axle, tearing up the posi, and eating the pinion bearing. Then, the driveshaft took a dump. This was all over the course of about one-half of a second.

My sig is what my time slip looked like when I was done.

HOLY $**T! I was just getting ready to ask what would be my worse case scenario and I guess your situation is what I'd like to avoid. If it was just the axles that would be fine but the damage you did concerns me. I don't think I wanna go out on my first run. :D
I guess I'll try a bracket class on street tires.

Yep. My whole rear is grenaded from just one 'small' attempt. I like destruction and if I knew I was going to tear something up, I would have really done a good job and dumped it from 6500. The posi is completely junked. Spider gears were knicked and one of the clutch packs was torn up real bad.

Cecil's track prep is never too good on Friday nights because of all the street cars there that bring all the dirt and water in, and that's when I did it. If I would have run on a Saturday or Sunday, things would have been much uglier.

Luckily for me, I've got access to a tow-truck. The tow bill back to VA would not be pretty. Sorry for scaring you. :)

I have stock 28 spline axles and 26x10.5 et streets with a 331ci 3.73 gears, and I launch at 5k everytime, its been 10 runs now with no problems, most of my runs were 1.6-1.7, so its hooking. My brother has stock axles in his mildly modded Gt with 4.10 gears and a 200hp shot of nos launching hard on the bottle, and no breakage yet either. Im not saying nothing will ever happen, but these rear ends are pretty strong. You should be fine this weekend on slicks.

JR, in our heavy verts, you will break something. i did run 26X10.5X16 ET streets with 22lbs of air in them 2-3 times at the track without problems, but i slipped the hell out of the clutch and didn't "shock" the drivetrain. I then installed an eaton differential and strange 31 spline axles. I made 3-4 passes launching harder, but still not DUMPING the clutch and the next day I noticed my pads were smoking on the driver's side rear wheel... turne out I bent my brang new axles the first time out. I have switched to superior axles and have launche dmuch harder... I haven't had any issues so far. (knock on wood). i did run drag raials for YEARS on the stock stuff with mid-low 1.7 60's with a best of 1.70, but I never side stepped it, I always road the clutch out. This is also the reason my flywheel looked like a soup bowl when I took it to be resurfaced. :(

I don't think i can make it this weekend with my car as I have to pull the trans out of it and figure out why my clutch fork is so far forward... its hitting the bell! So I either have a bent clutch fork, a pressure plate that was cut more than I was told, or something else going on. Right now the car is up on jack stands and I don't know when I'll have time to work on it. If I can, I will come down and spectate, I'm only 1.5 hrs from Mason max.

On 3.73 gears and stock axles and trac loc I used to run 8.5 inch slicks @ 10.5 PSI launching at 6K RPM for a full year of dumping clutches and everything no prob. I ran at Fun Ford Events and also Power Festival that year and I drive the car everyday now I have 4.30 gears a 31 spline axle and trac lok drive the car everyday and still launch at 5800 RPM no problems yet

I run a 26x10x15 ET Drag and currently still have the stock 176k mile axles, carrier, trans in my car (Knocks on Wood). I have cut mid 1.5 60's and so far so good.
Now that's impressive dude w/ 176K.:nice:
I have a pair of 26x10x15 MT slicks and I'm thinking about what Paul said about the heavy asz verts. I think I'm gonna try it though, what the hell??
I haven't picked them up yet and their mounted on Weld Drag Lites.
Can I use the stock studs or do I need to get new ones like 3"?

Thanks, I have mine mounted on Pro Stars, and I use the standard studs but I need to upgrade as they are starting to tech the cars heavier down here. Still dont say crap about roll cages tho.

Everytime i've seen axles or rearends trashed have been with someone dumping the clutch at 5 grand wih nos or a supercharger. Our 8.8's can handle some power but the axles our definetly a weak point.
