I have noticed in the past that some members have rear tire rubbing issues running 295-325 tires while others running the same tire and wheel combo dont. I wondered why this is and just found out why.

If you already know this then thats great but this is for the guys who dont know and like Mustang trivia.

Because the 03/04 Cobras mandated 275 tires Ford discovered a section of the pinch weld needed to be cut out so the tires would not rub. Because its easier and cheaper to cut all of them instead of just the Cobras, all 03-04 Mustangs had the cut done to them.

Also the only reason the Cobra did not come with dual power seats was because they would of had to change the carpet under the seat and they could not spare the storage room to have two different carpets in the cars.

And another stupid thing is the reason the Termi got an iron block was because they thought it was stronger then the Teksid. Cost had nothing to do with it Car woulda been that much greater had they gotten the engine under 600 lbs. They came in at 655 lbs

My right rear tire rubs bad with my 295's.... Personally, I wish both of my seats had manual adjustment. For 1, it saves weight, & they power seat motors in these cars usually end up going bad after a while. I have never had 1 break, & the 1 in the Mach works great, but my previous SN95 seat motors were pretty crappy... Ford shouldve used the aluminum block in the Cobra's....

Another reason may have been that the Teksid block has knock sensors and the terminator does not use them so they could not use the Teksid block without machining the block. The iron block does not have knock sensors so really it's the only block they could just take off the shelf and put into terminator engines.

Oh and I run 305s but they rub on the fender lip when pulling into a driveway at an angle but never touch the inner fenders.

Thanks, I have learned allot reading Iron Fist, Lead Foot. Its a very good read and you learn why the car was built the way it was. They built them to be thrashed and to handle a couple hundred more HP is so desired.
And Mustang92, they had wanted knock sensors on the car and machined the iron block to mount them but they discovered the blower was too loud and was always kicking in so they ditched them.

I know the Termi has legendary status already but if they would have used a better piston and the Teksid block then a bolt on only 1000 rwhp Termi would be quite common place. Just a hair more effort would of made for one amazing final product.

when i was at a SVTOA event, i met the powertrain engineer that designed the Condor motor and was on the development team for the Terminator motor. he said the cost difference on the pistons was less than $5 per unit.

Did he tell you what the cost difference was for the rods? I believe they said normal Mustang rods cost Ford $6 each and the Termis rods are $56 each.

I guess because my '03 GT's build date is Nov '02,she got hosed in this mod by the factory,'cause my pinch welds are still huge, and somewhat in the way ,and need to be trimmed,or pinched before i get larger then 285 rear tires.

Good info though!!!
