Smog equipment on a 66?

I am helping an elderly lady friend sell her 66 2+2 GT on eBay and have been asked if the smog equipment is intact. What smog equipment was on a 66? The car spent most of its life in San Diego, so wouldn't it have to have been on the car to pass inspection there?

A 66' V8 built for California would have an air injection system. Basically an air pump, a vacuum control valve, and the heads would have air injection tubes attached to each cylinder. There is an anti-backflow valve attached to the top of the air injection tubing.

This car was built in San Jose, but the DSO was Seattle. I would assume then that this was not a California emmissions vehicle?

There was also a "stove pipe" connecting hot air off the exhaust mainfold to the air cleaner when cold.

I don't know what was required in WA.

In 1966, nothing was required here.

It has the hot air tube to the air cleaner in place.

CA emissions systems weren't put in place in the other 49 states until the Feds required them in 1968. For Washington, all you would have is a PCV connecting the rear of the passenger side valve cover with the spacer under the carburetor. You also got the heat riser going into the air cleaner (non-hipo or dress-up style), but, like the choke, this was more for driveability than anything.

Oh, and even going back to California, they don't require non-CA cars to have CA emissions equipment on that vintage if the cars didn't come with it.

On the car pictured above, it looks like the heat riser and snorkel are not OEM. IIRC, originals don't have vacuum fittings for the snorkel heat riser bypass mechanism and are more oval than square.

Right now, anything older than 1977 (I think) in CA is exempt from smog testing.

1975 or older, they stoped moving the year up.

That definitley looks like it was an add on by someone. Look at the welds. Here is what a stock 66 engine comaprtment should look like.
