smog pump eliminator

I bypassed mine and still have cats and have had no problems, they wont be staying on long thought becasue my o/r x is going on next week. But i had no driveability issues at all and drove it for a few months.

Then you've been lucky. You WILL have major issues if you continue like this.

The "smog" pump actually pumps fresh air to the catalytic converters so that they can reach proper operating temperature during the cars warm up period. If the cats don't reach proper temperature, they will fill with carbon fouling from the exhaust, eventually clogging to the point that you can't drive with them.

just order my o/r x pipe and smog delete kit cant wait to slap it on. i also got some new headers. How much louder is my exhaust going to be and about how much horse do you think i will gain with the headers and the o/r x pipe and the smog delete?

Though symantics (and we know what was meant), during warm-up the AIR system pumps air into the back of the heads, not the cats. This helps the cats to light off faster. Once up to temp, the air is diverted to the cats.

I have to say that I have been meaning to research this a good bit. We know that Ford doesnt add parts it doesnt need to, but with all the cars out there with cats that dont use an AIR pump, I wonder if the pump was to help do a little extra clean-up on an inhertantly dirty motor.

I would like to find data regaring uncatted emissions output from an EFI 5.0L vs a car coming catted but non-AIR pump equipped.
