does anyone know off hand what size bolt you put in the back of the cyl. heads that will block off the lines that go to the air pump. i am putting my new motor in tommorow and i need to block those off cause i am running no air pump. i don't have a big enough bolt at home, to get the right size

If you are going to delete the smog pump then you will need a threaded insert known as a thermactor plug. They screw into the back and front of your heads. Put silicone on the threads to prevent any exhaust leak when installing them. The thermactor plugs you will use for the front (same as back) will go to make the head holes smaller so the accessories can bolt up like your power steering stud and one of your bigger alternator bolts that go through you alternator bracket. The back thermactor plugs you will use just block off and delete the smog equipment’s previous hookups. You can get them at a Ford Dealership - part # F4ZZ-6E086-A or you can buy some from Summitracing - part # TFS-51400265 and they run anywhere from $3 to $12 dollars from what I have seen. Summit has them cheaper.

I would personally skip the bolt idea if you can get to a Ford dealership nearby tomorrow...a much cleaner look for the front and back of your heads

ya but the damn ford parts people are idiots here, and it will probably end up needing to be ordered, and i am still waiting 3 weeks for my motor mounts from summit so i ain't goin there any time soon. what is in the front that i have to block, i took off he smog pump a long time ago when the old motor was in and i didn't block anything, (BTW they are TW heads, don't know if that matters)

You need the plugs (atleast on my AFR's) to screw into the existing threads to make the threaded hole smaller so your big alternator bracket will thread in and the same for your power steering stud...I'm not sure it actually "blocks" anything...

I would run by the dealership and see...just give them the part number and ask if they have it in stock? If it is close to you it won't hurt anything but a bit of gas/time... Worth a shot in my opinion...

ya i guess, i already mounted up my alternator barcket and power steering bracket , the car doesn't have A/C fom the factory so its bassically that A/C delete kit they sell i guess, i may just swing by home depot (right beside ford dealership) if they don't have it, and buy a couple bolts that look to be bigger. chances are when i go to ford they are gonna say " what are you talking about"

If you give them the part number they can't deny it But I've heard of worse I guess...they should atleast be able to order them but in your case you can't wait that long...

oh man don't get me going on part numbers, i got one from here before and gave it to them and it didn't come up, turns out the canadian part numbers are different for whatever reason, i may be going to home depot anyway, and ya i can't reay wait, i need it tommorow, does anyone know the thread size off hand?

I used bolts myself. I'll see if I can come up with the side -- they're pretty big, maybe 7/16" or so.

With all the carbon in the holes, I cleaned out as much as I could and still couldn't get the inserts in. I cut down the bolts to about 1/2" long and using a wrench I was able to turn them in. They seal good and on the back of the heads you don't even notice them. Unless your heads are fairly fresh, this is probably the best way to go.

Man where in Canada are you? I'm in Ontario, and I've placed 2 large orders with Summit, and the longest an order took was 6 days!

Also, I would find another stealership! (or at least talk the owner into s**t caning the parts staff.)Part #'s are the same in Canada as the are in the US.

The easiest way is to send them to a US address fjust over the border and run over and get them.

89mustanggx, are you for sure they are 7/16? Did you put silicon or anything on them to help seal better or not? Just screw em in? I am in need of doing this same thing also.

get them to send it USPS air mail, then you get around the brokarage fee's, it cost more but you get your parts faster and get around the brokerage fee. you still have to pay tazes ont he canadian price of whatever you buy but thats ussually it.

i don't know whats going on with my motor mounts and crossmember, they were shipped on the 5th and i still havn't got them and i paid $45 for shipping, you would think they would have been here already. So i said the hell with this i'm just gonna use my old parts till the new ones come and swap them when they arrive.
I just put that tube on my trickflows instead of trying to find a bolt cause i couldn't find the right size for some reason, and i will take it off later maybe (i don't really care personally, cause its blocked off and its not hurting anything except a picky eye)

If you have the pipe that was originally there, you can cut it, turn it around and bolt it back in.

My mistake on the 7/16 -- that is the stock size on the inside of the thread insert.

The correct size to plug the hole is a 5/8-11. So look for a 5/8-11 (5/8 coarse thread) bolt. I couldn't find a short one, so I got one and cut it off to about 1/2" long. I did put thread sealer on it. I don't know if it was necessary, but I didn't want any leaks. It turned right in with a wrench and works great.
