Hey whats up.. Just got the car back from the shop.. I hav a 6# Powerdyne SC..Haven't got a tune yet being that im waiting on larger injectors (42#).. a 10# Pulley and gettin a 70mm TB This week..

So I decide to get on it today to see if it really did hit 7#'s with the 6#Pulley.. I was not going to get on it and have been babying it all week being that I don't want to mess around before I get a tune..

Long story short: I got up to 7# and let off.. (I have sideexhaust) I see a poof of smoke as I get off.. Looks to be either grey/blackish smoke.. or BLUEISH SMOKE!.. So i decide to drive it around to see if it does it.. it does not smoke at all under normal driving.. and I have tapped it up to 2#'s.. no smoke.. Can anyone tell me what this could be and what could be causing it?,, Car is running fine.. starting fine.. not overheating and the oil looks fine as of now.. I am going to keep off boost until I get it tuned!!!!.. :bang: :bang:

Engine: '90 5.0 Mass Air, 24# Inj w/ FMU, Cobra Upper/Ported Lower, Ported Polished E7 Heads, E Cam. stock rockers.. that is all I can think of right now engine wise..May have more.. I will update this as I remember

I think the poof of smoke you saw is a result of running rich, harmless really. Why can't you get on it? I have an S-trim Vortech, with 24# injectors, fmu, boost timing retard box, 6 psi pulley, and inline T-rex pump and I run pig rich and hammer on my car. I don't see a big need for a tune on such low boost???

Honestly I feel as if I do not have enough Torque as I should..

When I get on it I feel it bog.. I feel as if my car is running rich..out of tune,, and just not where it should be:nonono: ..

I HOPE I do not have a blown headgasket.. I don't think I have a blown headgasket... The car is running fine.. starts fine.. No Problem at all other than today when I accually saw boost.. and as I said before the car feels out of tune.. not where it should be..and is running rich. That is why I mentioned I do not want to get on it until I get it tuned Lol:shrug: .. Then I won't need to worry on whether or not it is running right because it will be tuned!.

Was just curious as to what it may be.. it is only a 6# Setup..

That is the whole reason why I wrote this Thread.. because I thought with the 6# kit you don't really need a tune.. or does it depend on the setup? wouldn't life be easier if you can slap whatever you want on you'r car and just go!? (In a "perfect" Mustang world)

I am going to give it an oil change this weekend.. Is there a way to tell if you have a blown headgasket? hopefully it is nothing big being that My temperature has not gone up.. have good oil pressure and the oil looks good.. Car just stinks like gas.. and is bogging down low when I hit it.. the temp did go up when I hit boost (I heard that is normal).. but went down after driving a while.. Hmm.. 1st time getting all into boost and i see smoke so I guess I have LITTLE reason to freak out lol.. being that I just got her running decent enough to get around.

Blow by, I would say. Fine under moderate boost, then get full boost and smoke when you let up. Usually blow-by is blueish when full boost and under throttle. Smoke that is black/blue when you let up is usually unburnt fuel. I take it you are running the FMU till the rest of the setup arrives? stick some old spark plugs in the exhaust exit and wire them up to a power source and the wide open throttle sensor and ask the ricers if they see flames when you blow them by.

Check your coolant, see if it feels "slick" or "oily" or is dark, burnt looking in color. I think you would notice a bad headgasket. FMU definitely makes my car run rich, I think your just too rich.

I want to do this.. point me in the direction of the complete write up please

to original poster.. my car does it too.. FMU cause pig rich conditions by nature to ensure the safety of the car. they are not exactly the best *performance* giving mechanisim but will definitely allow u to drive ur car un-tuned for whatever time being.

that is because it probably IS rich and out of tune. And no you can not just bolt up a S/C or turbo without a tune.

Could be blowby as well which wouldn't be good either. Get it tuned and figure out where your a/f is then go from there as long as the oil stays clean.

I'm running 6 lbs with an FMU, and I'm pretty sure I blow a lot of black smoke when I'm under boost. Usually I'm looking forward when I'm hauling ass, not in the rear view though. :)

I believe FMU's are usually set up to run extra rich for safety, to prevent detonation. When you hit boost and the FMU kicks in, it dumps a lot more fuel into the engine, and that may well be what you are seeing.

If you have a buddy that works at a shop, you can check for a blown head gasket by taking off the radiator cap (not hot obviously), and using an exhaust sniffer to check for hydrocarbons coming out of the radiator. I am told that having used "stop leak" in your radiator will show up as hydrocarbons also. Obviously this will only tell you if your headgasket is blown between a cylinder and coolant passage.

You said your car bogs when you get on it. Does this only happen under boost, or also under normal driving? Was the bog there before the SC install?
