I have a 2000 manual GT with 25K miles basicly stock aside from exhuast and
an Tri-Ax. Anyhow I decided to spin the tires and all was going well until I shifted to second... instead of the tires smoking the clutch was slipping and smoking. What a nasty smell by the way! (245 Kuhmos by the way)
The clutch has not had any symtoms of going out and has rarely been abused until yesterday and it still works good as new. Is there an adjustment I need to make to prevent this from happening again? Or why did this happen?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I smoked my clutch once at the track...lol I had just made a pass not that long before and went to burn the tires in second, they were still pretty sticky so it was a bad idea.. stunk for a half hour, probably shortened the life by a few thousand miles but oh-well....

Your clutch is starting to go. There may be some burnt spots on the clutch or uneven wear. Go ahead and order an upgraded one (Spec stage II or Centerforce Dual Friction) and get the upgraded shift cable, firewall adjuster, and quadrant for an extra $100. It will be money well spent because you sure don't want that to happen when you want to race somebody. BTW your stock clutch lasted twice as long as mine, LOL.

the stock clutches are not poor units at all. they handle good amounts of horsepower and have pretty good life to them. However once supercharged or spraying, i would suggest going with a new, stronger clutch. but for decent amounts of hp, the stock unit is not a bad choice.
