I guess no one who has those spindles is interested in doing the measurements. I should measure up my Granada spindles just to add some information to the database. I like the Granada discs, but after 6 months I'm ready to upgrade. I'd really like to have a more modern setup. I don't think I need huge discs, but discs that don't constantly click and rattle and have me tearing them apart every other month would be nice.

Edit 5/23/05: I bent the metal backing plates of the brake pads in a vice and the clicking hasn't come back. Right now I'm feeling pretty happy with my Granada brakes. Lucky, because there are too many other projects to work on at the moment.

Have you done anything with this? I have stock 1967 power disc spindles and rotors installed, plus a set of 71-73 drum spindles. The measurement of these parts wont help will it?

I've adapted 2003 Bullitt calipers to a MII spindle. But that really doesn't help anyone here though.

Back from the dead

HSR I will try to get the measurements off of my 68 for you by this weekend if anyone is still interested in this project. I have already machined the hubs to accept the new style rotor and am just down to doing the bracket.

Sound like you have done the hardest part since the hub/spindles are so varied on the early cars. I have a set of 71-drum spindles and a set of 67-PDB spindles and they are fairly different. Which ones did you use?

I used the original manual drum brake hub. The only problem, as others have stated, is that the center hole for the rotor is a larger diameter than the hub. I have not decided if this a problem just yet since the hub is machined so that the od on the hub will keep the rotor centered. Anyone with other ideas, please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm glad to see threads like this because I started considering this idea about a year ago, just haven't had the time to machine the brackets yet. By the way I work in a machine shop and we should hopefully have our CNC up and running here in the next month or two. However I could probably work up a couple prototypes on our little CNC (not nearly as fast, and requires a lot more thinking.) So c'mon guys lets get those measurments and get the ball rolling.

On another thread, someone posted a link to Mustang Steve's website. Looks like he's going to be selling some caliper brackets that'll mount PBR/Cobra calipers.

Question...even if the original hub and spindle are used, isn't the depth of the 13" Cobra rotor less than the standard Mustang rotor or a Granada rotor and won't that effect the caliper position and thereby the wheels that can be used? I have a set of 13" front and 11" rear rotors and PBR calipers lying around that I would like to use, but really only intended to use the calipers with my Granada setup.

FWIW...

I just ordered a set from Steve, cost was $350+shipping. I already have the rotors/calipers but for an extra $500 I'd buy from him. They require drum-brake hubs and either type of spindle. They are not yet manufactured so I don;t know when I'll get them, and actually putting them on my car will take considerably longer, but I'll post a write-up and pics when i do.

You can goto www.mustangsteve.com , i recently did a group buy from him. which is no longer going. Good quality stuff but i have not yet got it on the car. If you do a little searching you may be able to find some information in other threads here. If not he will be more than happy to answer any questions. Now if i could just find some nice drilled rotors for outback around the same size

I am not willing to switch to drum spindles so I am froced to come up with my own, and the drawings would help alott...

ORRRRR if somebody has a readable pic from Shaggy, that will work too.

I just cant get my mind around paying hundreds of dollars, for something that I can make myself out of scrap material.... know what I mean? But I do want to make sure I do it right, so the drawings of a stocker would be a huge help. (jpg, bmp, etc)

I have a set of drum spindles I bought just to do this swap but found that there's apparently no difference between 67 manual drums and power disc spindles, your year may vary.

The wheels are FoMoCo Bullits in 17X8.
