Anyone else's exhaust make a WHOLE LOTTA noise on deceleration? My car makes sooooo much noise now that I put on the cat back and the high flow cats/h-pipe. I like the sound when I am on the throttle, love it actually, but when I let off the gas and the rpm's drop from about 4,500 down my pipes seem to sputter and pop really loud. Sometimes it even sounds like a backfire. Is this just the result of high flow exhaust not having the sound deadening that that the stock exhaust has? Or is there something else going on?

Mine did that too. The shop pinched off the Smog pipes running to the cats to where they could barely breathe. I removed the smog and plugged the pipes coming out of the cats and it stopped instantly.

Worth a look.....

Mine does this I thought it was just because of the chambered flow I run(Mac is chambered as well I think).

Mine does not pop *at all*. I kinda wish it did, I must have a little redneck blood in me. A friend of mine has an '03 Cobra with stingers, and it sounds awesome. Love the little snap, crackle, pop he gets... not loud, but audible.

more than likely... Just pinch off the hose with something then when it comes time for the smog testings ( ) open the hose back up

I bet they welded it shut like mine.... you might ask to get them rewelded. Mine had a bead inside that pinched off all but like a pea size opening.

Now that's an idea....

I dont mind the sound when its just a small little rumble but when it sounds like my car is back firing I cant stand it.

Usually that noise is a result of too much fuel in the exhaust. Do you have your fuel pressure jacked up kinda high?

Never even touched the fuel pressure. It's basically stock so I didnt think I needed to. Also the cats I bought were used and one of them needs to be replaced. Do you think that would make it worse?

Not sure about the bad cat causing the noise but as others have said about the emissions stuff, if you have some of it not working like it should, it seems to me the emissions prob could be a source of the noise.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't popping/backfiring indicate a rich condition and bucking/hesitation indicate a lean condition?

My car pops a little bit when I take my foot off the gas for the first minute after a cold start. Goes away very quickly as car starts to warm up.

Probably a lean condition. Do a code check. If you have 170 something code then it's lean.

There's a post called "What's she worth" by Green94 5.0 and his question is not at the top. Don't know what the hell is going on around here.

i noticed the confusing threads too lately.

For some reason, immediately after I got my exhaust done, I had the snaps and pops too...but one day they mysteriously disappeared for no reason at all......

maybe I should look into that
