Sneak Preview of my 65 in progress

My 65 Coupe is out at a body shop after 3 years of bodywork in my garage. New quarters, new floor pans, Shelby scoop, and smooth as glass. The red is just starting to flow, one piece at a time. I have done all the work myself after my friend welded the quarters in.

Thanks Mistress, I finished out all the work inside and in the trunk last night, we are ready to start spraying the body. More pictures to come SOON!!!

How long did it take to do the body work to it? Mine is still a long ways away from even starting the body work. Just need to plan for the winter up in the hills of the Sierra-Nevadas.

I started in February 3 years ago...but everything gets in the way so it hasn't been full time. We stripped 5 paintjobs off, found a gallon of bondo in the quarters so we put new quarters on. Then my friend that was helping got a new job that required lots of travel and then a new girlfriend that looks serious... it has sat for a long time. I took it to the bodyshop intending to hand over the keys and get him to finish it, but I got started working on it out there and ended up doing most of the work myself.

Thanks gonzo, that scoop is 2 whole days of hand sanding on epoxy, I am particularly proud of that!!

Thanks guys! This is the 3rd classic I have done body work on, the first I ever got to the paint stage before I sold it for one reason or another.

Tonight I finished prepping the body shell, we are painting tomorrow. This paint is going to be awesome. It is old school laquer. I bought it from an Automotive Paint Supply store that I have been buying from since High School. He had to custom order it, nobody stocks it any more. Laquer paints in several thin layers and dries to a shine. Color sand and buff it looks like a mirror, but we are going to color sand and put 3 coats of Urethane Clear on it so it lasts a long time.

Old picture, the day I started stripping 5 coats of paint off. I detailed it first, so it is a really cool picture.

Sprayed the body tonight, pictures are crappy, but this one is pretty good. Bad light I guess. It is looking awesome! Tomorrow we are putting it all back together, color sanding and spraying a couple more coats. More pics to come!!
