Pretty much the only thing holding me back from getting a 96-98 cobra is the fact that it will be my only car and I live in north jersey where we get our fair share of snow. Anybody have any advice about that? I heard something about bridgestone blizzacks? How do you guys deal with snow besides driving something else?

I live in Canada and it just snowed this AM. It is not a huge deal if you know how to use the compression in the engine for braking. Look ahead and don't use 1st gear to acellerate in the really icey stuff( doesn't happen to often) leave yourself room to react to the idiots around you and most of all get 4 snow tires! It is just cheap insurance. I have tried Blizzaks on another car (Porsche 928) and they are great until you wear the soft compound off which happens quickly as we really don't drive on ice and snow often. The main roads are bare in a day or two then its just wasting the $. I use Dunlop wintersport M2's on a set of trashed factory rims and I have found them very very good>(255/45-17) Sorry for the length but I have always driven high perf cars in the Great White and never had an accident and only got stuck once on a country road so I think I can contribute.

One other thought. These cars do not make their torque down low and I have 4:30 gears. It is a shame to work so hard for a nice car and not enjoy it. I really get a kick out of peoples reactions when they can't get traction in their Explorer and I am gone.>

Save a little bit of money and buy a beater, you dont want to drive your Cobra in snow. I totaled my last car which was a 95 GT in snow, you dont want the same to happen.

there is a possible beater in the mix (a 94 plymouth acclaim) but i would have some serious trouble affording insurance on both

any more experience with snow tires and/or working insurance with two cars (a cobra and beater) when you only have enough to pay for one?

Snow Tires???

Damn, I live in Chicago, and drove my 03 all last winter on stock F1s, it just takes a very skilled driver, and lots of thinking ahead to be safe. And I do have a touch of power..... 492rwtq@3200rpms


I do have a buddy who had some Dunlop Snow Tire on his 03 (stock) and he never had a single problem. He didnt even have to baby it from a stop. He would just grip and be gone

i have a 98 cobra, and I have had to drive it in the winter a few times. I have BFGoorich Gforce KDWS 275/40r17 and they are a great tire. They have great dry traction, work awesome in the rain, and handle the snow fine. They are also not that pricy 135ea. installed

I drove my probe in snow on kumho ecsta supras (summer tires) I never got stuck so I think if I could handle that I can handle driving my cobra in the snow with all seasons.

I live in MI nad we get a ton of snow! Not really a problem if you've got some good snow tires and are a skilled driver. You have to think ahead of everyone else, but it becomes second nature once you know what it takes to get around and work the snow to your advantage.

I came across another thread a few pages back and the verdict was an overwhelming NO on getting a cobra if you daily drive it in an area that gets snow.
Ive driven my old 93 GT in snow and it wasnt fun but yes doable, but i never went far-Im kinda figuring its not a good idea to get the cobra right now if its gunna be the sole car for a 45 min daily commute to school in northern NJ.
BUT the case isnt closed yet cuz I want this car more than anything. does anybody know about how to insure the cobra as a 'recreational vehicle' or something like that so i can insure a beater without having crazy insurance payments? or is now just not the time for me to get a cobra?

my insurence has a low milage policy. It is for 7,500 mi or less per year.

I to have a beater and a 97 Cobra. My insurance is currently 1800 for both per year. It is a little high, but I believe it will be going down this year. I will know next month. However, there is with some insurance companies, some sort of fair weather car type of insurance. My insurance would drop a significant amount if I send the license plate to the insurance company to show that I will not be driving it. When winter is over they send it back and take you back up to your regular premiums for the spring, summer, and fall. Check into winter storage insurance. It protects against theft, fire, vandalism, etc.. but of course there isn't any liability, because you aren't driving it. That's why it is so cheap.
