the other day i hit the rev limiter in my car and the stock tach was showing around 7k when it started bouncing. the rev limiter is at 6250 so the tach must be off.

i am thinking of a nice tach and shift light
oreily's has a good deal on tachs, 5 inch autogage with shift light for 175$, looks good and are made by autometer so they must be alright

so has anyone noticed increase in performance due to getting accurate tach readings and being able to harness power in the rpm that was THOUGHT to be too high?

The stock tachs are generally off by a percentage.

Consistancy is key - be it from using a stocker and knowing where your best shift point is (no matter what the value) or if having a known accurate gauge helps you dial things in, go for it.
A shift light could also be beneficial if you just want to dial in consistancy (stock tach or not).

Yep stockers can be off. I have a shift light but I kinda just know when to shift by sound. You have to know your car. I have the shift light working finally so I hope to make better use of it this year.

My stock seems realy good till about 2K than after that it reads higher by about 8% maby

Yep, stock tachs are generally off a bit...

I dont use it though.. i just drive by ear for the most part.

My stock tach is really close at low RPM but it gets worse at high RPM.

Mine is pretty close. It's useually never off by more than 100 or 200 rpm.
