I've heard manya times that the 302 can get to 300 whp with the right set of heads..

But then again i hear the H/C/I mostly gets you to 280-300.. Im not sure wich kit people use.. but im guessing trickflow

So, its confuseing to me.. unless their is confusion upon the info provided..

Out of a the right set of heads, the right upper and lower intake.. and the right cam shouldnt you see better numbers?

I can understand that if people do these mods without upgradeing fuel and ignition you wont see the full potential..

But i would think more then 75 hp

Alot depends on how well the parts are matched. Which is why that trick flow kit shows good numbers.

Most of the stock 5.0 motors from what I have seen on here dont make true 225hp unless they are very low mileage and very well taken care of.

Where you are getting confused is the 225hp. That is at the crank. Stock is around 180 to the wheels. So from 180 to 280 aint so bad. If you want more power cheaper get NOS. A novi 1000 will give you the same power as the HCI. It all depends on what YOU want out of YOUR car.

Buy a Vortech and 30's put 8-10 psi through it, or get a set of AFR 165's and an E cam with an Explorer intake and 24's. Either of those two will do!

Hot rod magazine did an article on a 302 a little while back. Pulled a 5.0 out of the junkyard, overhauled it, slapped some Edelbrock stuff on it and damn near made 400 HP at the crank. I saved the issue, here are some of the specs:

70mm TB, EGR
Performer RPM II intake
76mm C&L meter
1.7 RRs
Performer RPM cylinder heads
Comp XE270HR cam
24 lb injectors
A9L, SCT chip, tuning, FP regulator, etc

388 HP @ 6000 RPM (crank)
374 ft-lb @ 4900 RPM (crank)

The Edelbrock stuff is a bit more salty, but from everything I've read, 'ol Vic knows what hes doing with small block Fords. I also think that tuning makes up for quite a bit when it comes to H/C/I.

Screw a H/C/I setup. Slap on a S-Trim, 36lb injectors and matching mass air meter, and you'll have 330-360 depending on tune. It will be good for high 11s, and still get 25mpg on the interstate.

You can build 400rwhp with a 302 if you've got the money. It just takes high compression, 300+cfm heads, 650+ lift cam...etc.

NikwoaC - That was on an engine dyno. It did not take into effect the crank driven accessories or drivetrain loss.

this is a 347 stroker (302base)...and its only 11:1 compression

The block is a 68 mexican block....and the crank is an early cast unit.
Heads are TEA Renegade ported Twisted Wedge and the cam is a Ron Rhodes Custom solid roller. Rods are 5.4 length aluminum BME's, pistons are gas ported Wisecos. Intake is an unported super victor with a 750 Pro-sytems carb. Headers are KOOKS 1 3/4 with 3" collecters and 3" exhuast. On that pass it was shifted at 8800 and went thru the traps around 9100

Oh I know, but it should still translate to much more than 300 RWHP. I guess all I was really trying to say that if done right, H/C/I can make good power without going overboard. That motor was built with just 24lb injectors and a somewhat mild cam, so its still going to be *nice* on the street.
