i got bored and looked at my car and i was tired of the 4x4 stance. So i went and took the rear springs off and cut them. I took off about a half a coil. to my surprise it looks really really good and o ya it rides just like stock if not better and corners a lot better. Tommorrow i will be doing the same to the fronts. Any suggestions on how much up front i should take off and is it any easier to remove the front springs?

The rears don't effect the ride near as much as the front. You start cutting on the front and you will notice.. With that said, remember its easier to remove then add material.

The fronts are not as easy as the rears. You will need an alignment after your done as well.

Since I do not know the specs on the spring and no I was not going to clim under my car and measure them. These are just so numbers picked as an example. Also this is for non progressive spring rate.

i will try to get some pics up later tonight and i dont think im going to do the front until i can get an alignment. the rear drop is really nothing big just gave it a little better stance. i can see the diffrence and feel it to .

C'mon, have some pride in your modifications. Buy the correct matched components and lower your car correctly.

By that i mean springs, shocks and caster/camber plates.

Cutting springs changes the rates.

if i was a rich little kid i would by all the "right parts" for my car, but since i am in college it is kind of hard to buy all the right parts. and plus the ride is perfect the car does not make anymore noises than before just sits level. Once i get enough money i will be doing the front with c/c plates shocks and springs. If I didnt have pride in my work i would have just hacked up the springs but i took exact measurments before i cut so bothe sides were even. i just bought and installed new isos to and even re-painted them so no rust started to set in where i cut. o ya and i did buy brand new shocks before cutting them.

Nothing wrong at all with cutting linear rate springs, as long as its not overdone & you have some quality struts & shocks to match up with... Many 03/04 Cobra owners do it with no ill affects, & its very common with drag cars... Cutting a progressive rate lowering spring is usually not a very goo idea

Exactly, if done with a bit of common sense, it is perfectly fine to cut the springs. Certainly, you can't cut them for a 2" drop and expect it to ride and handle correctly.

So to the OP, did you get the front trimmed yet? And how much did it drop? I would consider trimming the springs in my 97. Even 3/4" lower would look a lot better.
