So I lost my gas tank key...

What should I do? I know taking it to a lock smith won't help cause they need a copy of the key. Should I take it to Ford?

Some locksmiths can feel around in the hole, and file a key down that will work.

is the lock on the fuel door or the gas cap? If its on the door just get a lock smith to open it and drive around w/ the door open until you can figure out how to get another key for it.

the gas cap, u know that real small key

is the cap plastic or metal.

we used to open the plastic ones with large channel locks.

the cap is black and plastic, and there is a small silver metal piece that protects the key hole

Like he said try the channel lock pliers. When I worked at advance ppl would lose their key and if your lucky the channel locks would break it open or if your feeling lucky drill it.

I dont have a key. I didnt know they came with them. maybe whoever had the car before you just put a locking gas cap on?

I don't think these cars came from the factory with a locking gas cap...

i have a lock on mine. not sure if it was factory. pretty sure the previous owner put it it.

i hate it. going to find a stock one so i dont have to worry about having to play with the keys for 5min by the pump LOL

In that case, most college students should be able to help out too.




I'm curious to hear the solution. I've not dealt with this and don't have any obvious ideas. I'd end up breaking the thing into little pieces.

I've got a friend taken courses to be a LS.....he had to take a lock and hand file a key...so I a professional should be able to make a key for you

those things are the worlds easiest locks to pick. when i worked at the auto parts store my coworker would always pick the lock for customers. he used two paper clips straightened out. its worth a shot if you got two of them lying around. good luck!
