So I was in Portland yesterday.

I also saw two men sitting in the hot tub at my hotel. They were talking to each other while sipping from bottled water.

(I am bored as heck at work tonight)

Why do you think I promptly moved north after graduating U of O?
I was shocked at the lack of dreads.

I also noticed that Eugene has alot of white people compared to portland.

I felt like a bumpkin. I saw my first Emo, and I had forgotten how to drive in the city compared to down here. I spent ten minutes trying to get out of the hotel parking lot because I was being nice and didnt want to pull out in front of anyone.

this is a copy/paste from another forum. A stellar example of the type of luck I have.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife and I went to portland on Monday because my 6 year old son had to have surgery on Tuesday. We stayed at a holiday in next to the hospital because it was around a 2.5 hour drive and we did not want to spend the entire day driving, especially coming home with a post operative kid who was sick/in pain.

Today my wife checks her balance online and sees that the hotel had triple charged us for our stay. Which put our account into the red by over $165. It also caused over $100 in overdraft fees.

With the expense of the surgery, medications, gas, food, hotel, Christmas, etc. Our account has had minimal amounts of money in it. Payday is not until next Friday. We had around $350 left in our account, which quickly dissapeared when they over billed us. Plus every time we used that account it drove it farther into the red, especially with the overdraft fees.

My wife called the hotel this morning as well as the bank. The hotel will refund us the over charged amount, but will not be able be able to refund us the overdraft fees until they finish posting to our account and we fax them a copy of our bank statement. Which will take up to a week.

The person who my wife talked to was under the impression that our banke would stop charging us overdraft fees once we notified them of the situation. We informed her that it was not fair for the bank to eat the fees due to a mistake on her end.
My wife asked for a contact number for thier corporate or regional customer service representative. The woman we were talking to all but directly refused to give it to us. She told us that all employees of this hotel chain are customer service reps, and she could take care of it.

Now here is the part that bothers me. My wife brought up the fact that this is a huge headache, and a severe inconvenience. We were offered a voucher for a free nights stay in one of thier hotels. My wife seems happy with this, but I am not. We are fairly simple people, we stay in a hotel maybe 3 times a year. We certainly do not have any loyalty towards one chain. We pick the most conveniant or cheapest hotel available. It would literally be years before we had the chance or need to stay in a hotel that was owned by this chain.

My wife and I are put in a very bad financial situation due to this. It will be at least a week until our account is no longer in the red. Until then we have no money to live on. We cannot buy gas, groceries, pay bills, buy Christmas presents for our son. We are going to be late for at least two bills, and will have to put this weeks gas and groceries on credit card.

anyways, would you consider a free nights stay at thier hotel acceptable? Personally I would not be happy unless they refund the night we stayed there to put my account balance back into a positive number, then pay the overdraft fees. I consider that fair, since I am basically screwed due to a mistake on thier part. I do not want a hand out, But I do not want to take it in the rear for them.

Unfortunantly I worked an overnight 12 hour shift and was asleep all day when this transpired. I am still half tempted to call myself and try to get it worked out.

what would you guy's do

you forgot to mention that europeans do not shower regularily. We all know that the europeans are way more socially advanced than Americans.

They have **** on regular TV, let thier kids hang out in bars with them, and have socialized health care.
