i got to thinking, and when i did my t5 swap, the car was on an arm lift and the whole rear suspension was dropped. Wouldnt this move the rearend forwards a little bit??

b/c i had the car on a drive on lift today and it looked like it could have enough room to fit, the t5 shaft had so much room and the AOD shaft is like 1/4 inch longer.

Maybe the splines in the yoke dont go as deep as the t5 shaft.

If so, will the t5 yoke fit the AOD shaft???

When I purchased my aluminum driveshaft, I told them what I wanted and what I was putting it in...they never asked about the tranny..

Should work...

The yokes on the auto shafts and the T5 shafts are/can be different. The auto yoke is larger and has a "collar" on the yoke that the T5 yokes do not. If you try to put an auto shaft into a T5, it will fit the spline OK, but the OD will hit the T5 tail shaft and not go in. Ask me how I know..........

I have an AOD shaft in my car, it fit fine, in fact I held it up to a T-5 shaft and they were the exact same length.

Length is not the issue - the trans shaft yoke is the issue. We have a local Mustang mechanic (BobCat - owns STLMustangs.com) who did my 3:73 gears. I didn't get my shaft balanced and found outr real quick that was a mistake, so I had him balance up a shaft for me. When I went down to get the shaft, we went to the drive shaft service and picked up several Mustang shafts he had balanced to have on hand. We put mine in and it went in just like it should. As I was leaving, another customer showed up for his shaft so I stayed to BS and help (get in the way). Well we grabbed one of the shafts and it slid onto the T5 output shaft fine but as soon as the yoke got to the tailshaft it bottomed - the yoke OD was too big. The yoke also had a "ring" on it a few inched down from the spline end and Bob said it was from an auto car. We pulled the shafts together and three were like the one we put in my car and two were like the one that was rejected by the T5. We mic'd the yoke OD and I don't remember the numbers, but it was significant. Shafts were identical lengths other than that. The shafts do vary some - some have one OD all the way down the shaft to the yokes and others neck down to the yokes on either end (larger in the center section).

ok heres how it went guys.

I took out the t5 shaft i have in the car, it rattles and vibrates HORRIBLY, i cant take the shaking, so i figured why not give the AOD shaft another go.
after i took the t5 shaft out, i looked at the yokes, they are about the same, the AOD yoke has a damper on it. I thought that the splines werent as deep in the aod yoke. I measured and they are both the same. But what i did notice that the AOD yoke splines, there was like a ring b/w the splines about 1.5 inches from the end of the yoke, so thats why the AOD shaft would bottom out. Otherwise it would fit nicely.

I attemped the swap over the yokes, the AOD ujoints are hard to get out and it also seems that they are different, i gave up it and left it as is.

So i before i called it a day, i tryed the AOD shaft again.
same as before, it would fit, but the pinion nut is sticking out again. making it hard to line up. it would fit right up if the pinion nut didnt stick out as far.

On the other side, the t5 shaft would go farther in the tailshaft, since that "ring" in the yoke splines isnt there. Which would leave like 2.5 inches from the end of the DS and the rearend, and then you slide it back into place.

anyway, i gave the aod a shaft a swift hit with my hand and it went up, put the bolts in and it works.

While the aod shaft definatly isnt make to work with the t5, it does fit.

I also have a question, what would cause a slight virbration at around 65 and up, faster you go the worse it gets, its most noticeable when decelerating, while accelerating, its not bad. But when off the gas is when you can feel it.

I had the vibration before with my AOD. just couldnt feel it as much, since the shifter is connected the the AOD via a cable, the cable didnt transmit vibration.

On the t5, the shifter is connected and i can feel it through it.

But the ds bolts are tight, could it be a U joint? i remember the front ujoint was kinda tight feeling, sort of binded up a bit, i suspect this is the problem, but i didnt want to tear is apart and cause more problems.

The vibration is much better and i can bear it now.
