So, what's the bes service dealership in E. Mass??

Because I need to know.

I tried to bring my car in to have the rear tailshaft seal on the trans replaced for leaking. Well according to Sentry Ford in Medford, my car would need to stay 2-3 days for them to do that. It's a 30 min job!!!

Anyway i need to find a place to have the tranny TSB performed, and i'll have the seal replaced at the time.

So what dealerships have good reps and which are the ones to stay away from??

I thought you had to have it done by the dealer you got it from?

I never bought my car from a dealer. And the dealership that sold it is 1.5hours west.

All dealerships will cover the warranty from Ford, they just send the bill out to Ford afterwards.

Hey Mike.....I was told by a very good friend of mine, who is very well mechanically inclined himself, that the guys at Transmission & Performance in Stoneham (used to be on Foundry Street in Wakefield) are one of the best transmission guys around. This friend of mine (Scott) has a brother who is one of the best mechanics at Bonnell Ford and he also recomended me to them when I had my gears done and they did them for me and I've never had a complaint . I heard the reason they moved is because the business was doing pretty good and they needed more space....that's always a good sign.

no dealers are reputable, although you can call ford and find out who on the outside can handle the warranty work ,my shop has done warranty for gm
and chrysler and were an outsider who turns in warranty claims. worth finding out?
either way you have a tsb which is not waranty so you would be paying for the check up..
is your seal warranty? if not bring it somewhere else than a dealer.
are you having shifting problems ??

My car is still under full warranty until mid 2006. The seal would be warranty work. It really is a simple job, and i could do it myself in an hour, but i don't want to touch a brand new car if i can help it.

As for the TSB, it's a current issue regarding the T-3650 5-spd in 01-03 Mustangs. WHat happens is the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift is very clunky and notchy when it's cold out. This is what my problem is but there is a 50+ page tech post in the 4.6L forum with other 01-03 owners who have the same problem. TSB 04-15-06 came out in mid-June, and i waited til a few people had it performed. They are reporting good things so I wanted to bring my car in and have the fix performed. It IS covered by warraty as long as the car exhibits the problem and is under the 3 year/36,000 mile mark OR the dealership documented you have the problem before it expired if in fact it is expired. The fix replaces a good chunk of the tranny internals such as 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 1-2 synchro, 3-4 synchro, shift forks, shift rails and other small peices.

If you can't tell, i've been doing my homework on this issue. Now i'm trying to find a good local dealership to perform the work and one that won't treat me like some 16 year old kid who doesn't even know how to pop his hood like i have been lately.

If my car was out of warranty, i would do the work myself. I've rebuilt T-5's before. It's a peice of cake. I have the service manual for the T-3650 and it looks very similar in design. I would have no problem ordering the parts, dropping the tranny and replacing the parts myself. But I shouldn't have to do that anyway. I just hate dealing with dealerships. I don't mean the people who do the actual work, but the people at the desk you need to convince to get the work done. So far the ones i've made pre-lim phone calls to treat the customer like they don't know anything about cars. I had one guy actually explain to me how a tranny worked and how it's normal to feel a clunk when you shift because the gears are meshing. NO ****!! I KNOW THAT!! Is it normal for the car next to you to hear the gears clunk together?? NO!

Sorry for the rant Some of you 01-03 T-3650 guys should know what i am going through

Yeah Mike....same number also why don't you call me Saturday afternoon after 5pm and we'll see where I am. Maybe my girl will be interseted in dinner at Kellys roast beef on the beach and we can hook up then

Yeah im doing the same thing on my car, I only have 6K more left on the warranty so I have to get it done soon. Ill probably bring mine to Quirk here in Quincy as much as I don't want to. There really is no good dealerships, its just a matter of picking the lesser of the evils.

Mike....why don't you PM me your cell phone # and when I get home from doing a few errands i'll give you a call. I am going over to a friends house tonight to watch the Patriots game with Denice so if we can do this before say...6:30pm then it's a go. Otherwise I will call you tomorrow and we will definitely do this. The only thing planned for tomorrow is finding out when Denice's son's father is going to drop him off back home to us.
