sohc vs dohc cam question

sohc vs dohc EASY cam question

ok...I admit this is a newbie question..but I thought I knew what I was talking about..until recently...

could someone explain the diff between sohc and dohc in terms of the number of total cams in the engine, and the location of each?

sohc- 2 valves per cylinder, single cam for each bank of cylinders, located at the top of the head.. there are 2 cams..

dohc- 4 valves per cylinder, 2 cams located side by side at the top of the head.. 4 cams in total

An SOHC engine has 1 cam per head (total of 2 cams) while a DOHC has 2 cams per head (total of 4 cams).

thanks guys...never knew about the cobra having 4 cams total...still learning all this internal engine stuff...

hey no problem... now you know why cams for cobras are more than cams for a GT and why our cams are WAY more than a cam for a 5.0.. there are more of them
