I recently purchased a 2006 mustang GT premium with just about everything but the shaker 1000. I was a 2005 GTO owner but wasnt pleased with the cars looks so i went with the stang. What i would like to know is what it takes to be able to beat the '05 GTO's. I know the stangs can hang with them stock but i want to really put a hurting on them since 2 of my friends own GTO's (1 2004 and 1 2005). I know ill prolly be told to do a search but i thought posting here might help more. So if its not too much trouble what mods give the best gains and also provide me a few links to some sponsors/parts dealers. Thanks in advance

Advice for a Noob

What is needed to beat a GTO?. It all depends on how fast you can afford.
Speed = $$$$. :) If you got the money, there are lots of parts out there to spend it on, and make your stang faster.

start with the basics: CAI, tune, gears, GOOD TIRES, good driver, etc. mufflers do not add power, but changing the stock h pipe for an X or H with (or without) high flow cats does add power. shorty headers are a waste of money, if you really want headers, get long tubes.

Since there's a $6,200 price diffence between the GT and GTO (in favor of the Mustang of course), then there are two quick solutions that should push you into the 400hp+ catagory..

For cheap $500-$1,000.. Nitrous

or

Toss in a supercharger or turbo setup for about $4,000-7,000.

These will give you the most bang for your buck as far a single ticket items go.

:D

so aftermarket axle back exhausts don't add any horsepower or TQ increases? Corsa axlebacks claim a increase of 7-15% increase over stock mufflers. is this a false claim?

i am not 100% sure on the corsa. a mag tested many of the exhausts a while back. the max power was less than 5 hp IIRC.

Thanks alot guys. I was planning on some FI(Forced Induction) in the future(3 or 4 months down the road) I just wanted to keep it NA for now. Im most likely going to get Full Exhaust(LT's Cat-back H/X-Pipe) CAI, a Tune, New tires ofcourse, and touch up on my driving skills. Thanks for the help once again now if i could just find a site where i could find all the parts i needed lol.
