Some advice, Please...

Coming home from K-Mart in my 90 LX hatchback 5 spd and while accelerating mildly to 55, we heard a ticking sound start up under the hood. About a mile later, we turned onto the Interstate and I noticed it only made the noise on acceleration . Drove about 5 miles and stopped at the rest area. It was down about 1/2 quart of oil, which I added. Resumed trip with same noise. Another 15 miles got us within a 1/4 mile of home, when a huge cloud of blue smoke poured out the tailpipe. It didn't idle anymore . I have 3-2.3 motors in my garage... an 88, a 90, and a rebuilt 1980 with about 35K miles on it. I'm assuming I would have to swap one of the late model heads to the 1980 to use it with the EFI? Anything else I would need to do? Or should I just go with one of the later ones, both of which have over 100K miles on them but would be a direct swap?
