"For the win" came from Hollywood Squares, not Jeopardy. I.e., a contestant picking a certain square to get 3 in a row "for the win". Sheesh.

OH C'MON! Hollywood squares was as long gone as Gene Rayburn before the use of the abbreviated version came along. According to the Urban dictionary Adams91LX "Googled" for me, The term got it's shortened usage from Everquest, or World of Warcraft.

Double Sheesh, Triple Booyah.

Well if urban dictionary says so...

Far be it for me to contest the average contributor of that abomination.

Hey I asked to be school'd and this is the reading material the "teachers" offered me. I can't help it if you discount the material in the text book,... or slight me for being a quick learner.

More than likely it became a popularized internet slang because of WOW, but the term references 'Squares. You said it yourself, "it was long gone", so naturally it must have been first. That's how the internet is, they take something nobody cares about, such as Chuck Norris, and makes it popular for unrelated reasoning.

Yeah,...I agree w/you on that. H.S. is the only place I've ever heard it used actually. I just don't see how it works w/ reference to how it's used on here.

What, you want people on the internet to make sense now too? That's asking too much! The tie-in is that whatever precedes "FTW" is touted as the best, great, cannot be beat, is tops, etc. Someone got onto this point earlier. For instance: Ford Mustangs FTW!

I think "pwned" should be recognized as a real word of the English language.

It's pronounced the same as owned except with a 'p' in front.
