Something Broke - please read!!!!!

Hey fellas, Tonight I got on it really hard and hit the rev limiter under heavy boost (13psi) and something broke. The first thing that happened is that she stalled and didnt want to restart. When I was trying to start the car it felt like the starter was turning the crank but nothing else was turning, I immediately thought the timing chain broke thats how it felt. After several minutes the car started but is really running bad. I have a air fuel gauge and it is showing nothing wrong but I can smell a lot of gas. The car is puttin along kinda like a vacum hose blew out or something.
Any ideas on where to start? Compression test I was thinking but I have never done one before. I am planning on pulling the plugs in the morning and going from there.
Is it possible to jump timing?????

I would say check your wires and hoses? I'm not nearly an expert but in the computer world, you always check your lines first

If you did that on a stock block I say you might be buy a new block. It almost sound like a compression issue or you might have cracked the intake and air is getting into the engine.

As far as jumping timing Ive heard of it but not with a modular since our chain is so long and it has hydraulic tensioner I doubt that would happen unless it was the chain was already stretched to begin with.

Thanks guys, Im hoping its a vacum hose I will go thru them again this morning but I have a feeling its something else.
First to do list:
1. check all hoses
2. Pull plugs and checked for fouled plug
3. do compression test
4. Pull motor - rebuild with forged intermal

Need more info.......is the car smoking? if so what color? Is there oil in the Coolant or vice versa? before you start it today look at the dipstick. if it is milky white you probably blew a head gasket. Any knocks or taps?

oh just thought of this also......I know our cars (03/04 Cobras) have an issue that if you bounce it off the revlimiter, or make ALOT of HEAVY RPM transits, the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRPS) blows out. Car will run like crap. Does your oil smell like fuel? if so I bet that is what you did by how you described in your first post.

My bet is you likely aren't running on all cylinders anymore. I would start by pulling the plugs and inspecting them and then do a compression test. The strong fuel odor inidcates to me that one or more of the cylinders aren't firing.

hmmm....sounds like a blown head gasket. Get under your car and see if any liquids are dripping from around your heads/headers, also do the spark plug thing, and also check your oil for the prsence of non-oil substances and look @ your intake manifold for cracks.

Update - Found passager front plug collapsed (dont know cylinder lay out) the arm is smashed into the electrode. What does that mean? IEither the connecting rob broke loose or could it just be a freak thing? Meaning the piston went too far up in the cylinder but did not break???

Another update: Re-gapped plug, put blower assembly back together, car ran fine until I jumpped on it and it was like the same thing happened again. Pulled same plugs and nothing is wrong with them .............

Okay, you need to take your car in like yesterday. Sounds to me like you had major detonation cooked a piston bent some valves maybe...Sucks...maybe SNF could start a fund for your re-build.

BTW this thread should be a sticky so all those people who give "My friend runs like 257lbs of boost on a stock motor and his car is just fine" advice will see what happens.

thats very odd that the plug gaps got closed on a few cylinders.. so when you regaped them it ran fine untill you got on it again???

the shuting off and smell of heavy amounts of fuel could have been a flooding condition.. under heavy load (like WOT @13psi) the injectors are pretty much wide open.. and if you had the spark go out on that cylinder then it's possible too have flooded the engine.. causing the no start for several minutes..

as for what caused this problem.. we need more info on your setup.. has it been tuned right? what size injectors?? <--- this is the most important one..

Pulled all plugs and did compression test. Found drivers side to be good but on the passenger side 2 cylinders are reading very low. I blew the head gasket between 2 cylinders. I going to start tearing down now, does anyone who has done this before have any advice to me? I still do not understand how the piston smacked the spark plug thou......

I was going to take it in next week for a dyno tune, I have a diablo mail order chip now. I use 42 lbs injectors, 90 mm mass air meter, focus fuel pump.

I was thinking since ill be pulling the head that i might as well send them out for some blower cams and porting. Who do you guys recommend?

woahhhh stop with the doomsday stuff... if he had bent valves it would have nevr ran right even after he regapped the plug that was closed..

lets sit back listen too the info and figure out what happend..

it probally never hit the plug.. severe detonation probally closed the gap

after you replace the head gasket.. i would look into what you are running for injectors and other fuel system items..

was this the same cyl's that had the closed plug gaps..

In my 1st post I said he had blown head gasket, which he does, if the detonation was strong enough to crush a spark plug and blow a head gasket I bet the piston has a nice whole in it and "maybe" the valves are bent from the shock wave.

I said maybe. Not definetly. Either way he needs to build his short block if he's gonna run 13lbs of boost.
