The title says it all. For my 5 speed, it's sometimes wont go into reverse and just have to mess with it to get it to go in. Something wrong or just a mustang thing?

what year is your car? mine does that too, so i stick it into 1st or 3rd and it loosens reverse right up. iirc, i read it had something to do with weak shift forks (?) but on my t45, dunno if you have the 3650

I used to have the same problem with my t-45, with mine usually I would just put it in 5th gear and it would go straight into reverse.

Typical T45 TR3650 problem. What I do, is put it in 1st, roll forward about 1/2" or 1" (doesn't take much) then put it in reverse. It goes right in when I do that. I even had a new replacement T45 do this crap to me.

Same issue here with my 2002 GT. It's been doing it for years now. Thanks for recommending the 1st gear trick I'll have to try it.

p.s. It seems to be worse the hotter it is.

there is actually a TSB for that, and another one for a 1-2 clunking noise. both tsb's call for ford to look at them.

No problem guys. Yeah, sometimes 5th, then reverse works. It works for my Cobra, but not my notch with the T45. I do the roll forward in 1st, stop, then go into reverse. Works like butter. Just don't roll into your garage wall, or tool box.

I had the same problem in my 02. Luckily it was still under warranty and Ford rebuilt it. No problems since then.

I'm interested in reading these TSBs. Anyone have a link to them?

My 3650 is exhibiting BOTH of these issues, but is way out of warranty. I can't really afford to pay Ford to do this and I'm not scared to pull a manual tranny apart. Although if it is not much more, I would be more than happy to replace it with a T-56...

EDIT: Nevermind, I found those TSBs posted on here!!

I think most cars have this problem. Ive got it on my mustang and i had it in my jetta. Like everyone else said, just put it into first and should have no problem, did it with both my cars.

I do 1st then reverse. Sometimes it still doesn't want to go in, so I put it in first, let the clutch out VERY LITTLE, and then push the clutch back in and shift to reverse.

It's gone first try every time

Agreed w/ the comments above. If it doesnt want to go in, put it in first and then try R. Should be fine then.
