Do you have a set of good gears? That would help dramatically. If you are not running a supercharger or nitrous 4:10 gears would work great. If you are planning on running any of those in the future I would reccomend 3:73 so you aren't running out of gear in the 1/4 mile at the dragstrip.

you must have stock gears b/c my car with a 4.10 gear off spray pulls good! Get you a nice set of gears (cough 4.10's cough) and she will do some better.

You do lose topend though with 4.10s. Hence the reason why I got rid of mine, you can only do about 115-120 w/ OD off with 4.10s. My car was hitting the rev limiter at the 1000' mark at the track so I could never make a full pass.

I hit top of 4th (129ish) all the time...when i say all the time probably every time I drive the car LOL It gets there fast enough, will get there a lot faster soon

And I don't think its a matter of 97s or autos, its a matter of all NPI cars are slow, and all PI cars are slow without a healthy dose of poweradder

+1 cams/intake manifold/heads will give you the extra pull up top your looking for.

The way I understood this thread is that he was looking for getting to top speed faster, not increasing the top speed all together. I agree that intake, cams, and heads will make a world of difference, but a cheaper fix to boost his get up and go factor would be to get a diffrent gear ratio.

nitrous is an easy route. Or you can get some comp 268ah cams for NPI heads and a PI intake manifold and your powerband should be switched up top fairly easy.

I dont know whats with you guys sn95, mine can pull easily pass those speeds, my buddy did it in his 96 GT Vert - auto, took a while but he got to 140+ racing a SER Maxima, no b.s...takes long but it can, i know it can.

there was a thread on svtp about it. I think some people sn95's are not healthy...

well right now i have both the PI cams and intake, but i was thinking about selling the cams and looking for some stage 2's for a nice lob, and great power.. but this weekend i'm changing the oil to fully synthetic mobil 1. and a K&N oil filter, so it will be probalbly next weekend, or the weekend after that to see if i put the new intake on.... but i'm hoping the oil will help some. Its alittle passes when i needed to change, but i have finaly gotten out of my money problems. (dang bank, with over draft charges for .01) but its all good now!!

You have the slowest combo possible for a 96+ V8 Mustang. Your GT will get up to 140ish but it might take a few hours, lol.

Actually you don't, you won't catch up to the theoretical top speed between the trans gearing and 4.10, I'm sure you're referring to the 1/4mi

Actually it will, a faster gear will push the car quicker though the gear, hence faster to top speed

So, I was wondering why you want to see how fast you could go? high speed wise...

Yeah if you shift into OD! That's just dumb though... that puts super high loads on the motor to maintain speed. Racing + OD = bad

get some 3.73s and do some weight reduction , convertibles weigh more than the coupes ......weight and gears are probably your problem , good tune up and new fuel filter wouldnt hurt either if you have done that in a while
