A couple of times I've had the engine just about quit on my '05 GT when shifting down to 3rd or 4th to pass on a highway; it didn't stall, but there was a deadly pause. I had it checked by the dealer, then decided I was revving too high in between gears, cutting power by the rev limiter. But... in the last few days I've noticed an occasional severe hesitation after running a distance at highway speed, as if the engine were hot, tho the guages tell me otherwise... Acceleration is rough, kind of bucking, or the same near stall. Anyone else or any ideas? Many thanks.

yes had this issue

when coming off hyway on the off ramp,sometimes when you get back in it there`s a big hesitation.Is this what your refering to?Don`t know what causes it.But not worrying bout it eithier.

Mine has done that on occasion. drop it down into 4th it goes for a brief second, then cuts out and starts going again. Almost like it is getting to much gas.

I thought I saw some tsb's about a retune of the older computers. I think they were on these forums, can't remember. It might be a bad tune on the computer. What happens if you turn TCS off?

It's the TCS,mine will do it when power shifting or down shifting with the traction control on.

I think it's TCS, too. My solution is to never get all the way off the throttle. The pause only seems to be there when you completely lift the throttle and then try to get back in.

I've been trying to get into the habit of turning off the TCS every time I start the car. I have a teenage son who loves to say "Dad! Traction!" to help me remember...

I wish I could turn it off permanently. Hopefully one of the tuners will figure that one out!

Mine does it too, when shifting from 5th to 3rd to pass, sudden hesitation car does a nose dive for a second. Sucks when a LS1 is behind you. I think it is the TCS too

Thanks for the comments, all; so it appears to be "characteristic of the car" and thus not a problem any dealer is willing or able to fix (at least until enlightened by a TSB). Doesn't seem right, though..... IMO

I think it is a part of the "torque managment" to save the drivetrain from "abuse". Just get in the habit of turning it off,anytime I feel like getting on it or racing somone the first thing I do is turn off the TCS.

Its the traction control that is causing this pause of power. If ya wana race the engine just turn it off. I personally like the TCS cause it could save a life or a car in certain situations.

There was one situation where I would have been better off with it off but Im glad that my correction of driving saved my car from the TCS being on when taking an offramp at 70mph+ when the turn is recommended @ 35. Turn TCS off if ya wana do it so your backend can swing a bit and your frontend doesnt do it instead.

My car does this and I always have the TCS off no matter what. I can be running down the interstate about 85 and when I get onit to pass it will just act like it stalls for about 1 second and then it just takes off again. Oh and my car is auto. I have also had this happen at lower speeds when just driving around town and I go to romp on it and it just stalls out for some reason. It is very frustrating but my local dealer wont do anything about it.

My first GT (the one Ford bought back) did the same thing a few times. I would be pushing the 3 - 5 k rpm range and it would (just for a second) fall on its face like it stopped running. I would let up a little and it would take off again. I marked it up to bad gas? Could be the mission computer; never figured it out. The new one has been rock solid.

A tuner will get rid of it with the TCS off,ford might have updated the tune on newer cars because of complaints. Mine never does it with the tcs off now that I'm tuned.

Bucking or Jerking

My 2005 GT also has this problem. If you cruise on the highway for 45 minutes or more then exit the highway and stop then accelerate the mustang will buck violently once. The buck can be severe enough to give you whiplash not to mention the fact that it's extremely embarassing. I cannot imagine the damage that it is doing to my car. I don't believe that the TCS is causing this. I am leaning toward the rev limiter malfunctioning. Has anyone eliminated this problem by loading a custom tune?

SCT CAN remove it, as well as torque management.

I too turn it off all the time, save the wet days. For it to be completely effective, it is intended to function with ABS, meaning driving style. Hard to put into words, but WFO in the wet you would want to use it, just as you would want to use ABS for high speed evasive maneuvers.
