All,

Sorry to post another exhaust thread. Here is my situation. I am going to get my windows tinted the end of this month but I also have some money left that I can afford to spend.

I am thinking that I would really like the car to sound better. I have pretty much decided on the UPR X Pipe because I have read a bunch of great things about the product. I understand that my check engine light will come on but I can get a reflash or a chip to turn off the sensors.

Should I just leave the check engine light on? I will have to put the stock H Pipe back on when it is time to get emissions. Will the check engine light go back off when I put the stock H Pipe back on the vehicle. I have two years from this April before I get another emissions test. What does everyone suggest about the check engine light?

The second and most important question is about mufflers or cat back. Should I just buy some good mufflers and use the stock cat back or replace the stock cat back with an entire new system. If I am going to get a new system I will go with Magnaflow.

If you all think just mufflers is a better choice, when what mufflers would be best with this X Pipe? I could save the money that the cat back would cost extra and do something else (gears) to my car. What does everyone think is best?

Thanks for any help.

I'm in the same boat. I'm getting ready to buy a magnaflow catback and x pipe. You can get some mil eliminators to turn off the check engine light. I'm not getting a custom chip until after gears and several other mods.

I love my UPR X-Pipe and Flowmaster 40's!! There is no need to replace the catback. Stock one is suffient.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that the stock catback is good enough and some mufflers will do the trick. I will look into the Flowmaster 40's.

Drone with an o/r pipe and flowmasters would be very bad.
Magnaflow catback with upr-x is a perfect match. Deep quiet rumble at idle
and sounds very mean through the rpm range and screams a wot.
My last car had welded in flows and I will not be going back to that.
After 1 year I hated them.

Also, what size muffler is needed on the 00' GT. Is it a 2.5" pipe. What offset are needed for the mufflers? Thanks

Flowmasters are cool, but then the problem is that your car will now sound like 200,000 other Mustangs on the road. Be different, I put FMS catback w/BBK x on my 02 GT and it's awesome, no droan and it sounds just different enough that people know it's me coming!!

I am going to look into different mufflers. I just don't see spending all the money on an entire catback when the stock one is already stainless.

I hope the UPR fits since it is 2.5 and the stock is 2.25. Will I need an adapter? What offset is needed on the 2.25 inch mufflers?

The mufflers need to be offset in/offset (opposite side) out unless you want your mufflers to sit cockeyed under the car. And there is no need to stretch the pipes. The UPR pipe can be installed at home to save some money and take the car to the shop to have the mufflers welded in. Actually, you may want to do it in reverse order because some shops won't touch a car with o/r pipes.

Your offset needs to be like #4 in the right-hand column. This is off the Spintech page, but it was the only pic I could find quickly.
