I was leaving for work last night, and the car just shut down and would not restart. I was going to the gas station fuel was low but it wasn't empty. I can hear the fuel pump come on when I try to start it. I found some corrosion on the battery terminal, cleaned it off still won't start. Put the battery on the charger will see what happens. Did a visual inspection of the engine compartment didn't see anything unusual. I have to find a code puller to see whats happening. What do we have OBD1 or OBD 11. Any idea how much these cost?

What should I try next?

I don't think a code puller is going to tell you much. Most of the sensors in the engine require it to be running to get their info. Even so, you don't need a code puller anyway. You just need a short length of wire and the check engine light will do the rest. Will the car crank over? Do you have spark? If the car is cranking over then the battery isn't the problem.

It turns over, I haven't checked for spark yet cause the battery is still charging. I had corrosion on the terminal awhile back and that did prevent the car from accepting a jump and starting up. So I'm gonna check that first then jump to spark plugs, cap, coil etc....

I'll do a tune up while I'm at this, what brand of spark plugs should I get?

do you have an adjustable fpr? if so that could be the problem. it happened to me on i-5 and the car lost all power then wouldnt start. and just like que ball said, your main things first are fuel, and spark. check all your fuses and wires, especially around you starter cylinoid. things like to get loose. garry
