HAMPTON ROADS
i know most of the guys remove trhe sound deaner to improve the weight. i want to increase the comfort in sound. i know about dynamat and such but it's so damn exp$$$. i saw somewhere where someone used some insulation from a hardware store. was wondering what kind it was i can't remember. my car is m ostly a dd and to cruise with. so the drone on the highway sucks .

any help would be appreciated.

I had one of those cheap memory-foam mattress toppers lying around and got an idea the other week. I stripped out the stock sound deadener crap, rigged up my rear seat delete, and lined the underside of the rear shelf and seat-delete sheetmetal panel with some trimmed-to-fit sections of the mattress topper. Weighs less than the stock insulation (according to my trusty bath scale, I shaved 3 lbs. off by switching sound insulating materials), and soaks up the sound way more effectively. Helps stereo acoustics, too - my crappy little 6"x7" speakers suddenly have bass, now!

So, if you've got a mattress topper laying around, there's a freebie. If not, a new one costs about thirty bucks at Wal-Mart, which is still half the cost of that Dynamat stuff...
