i know this subject has been up here many times and i've seatrched through all the old ones but i want people to hear me when i get on the throttle. my "turbo" mufflers arent cutting it compared to the great sounds i hear coming form other stangs, camaros, firebirds, ect.

i will go up to 250 for mufflers. i will do the installation myself so that will cut out labor money.

flows? borla? magnaflow?

i would like to hear some of your alls car as well if i could. i hear the guy on here thats on magnaflow i believe. but i kinda want a beefy sound that is sorta loud.

i have 40 flows non delta and they are loud, but give a real "clean sound." i've heard spin tech mufflers have a pretty ballsy sound to them, but i havent heard them in person. my buddy has hooker areo chambers on his 65 chevelle, and they sound mean. in fact, for a while i was thinking of getting some areo's to replace the flows, but i decided that the flows better match the "character" of my car. besides, i'd still bet mine are louder; just a different kind of louder.

Go spintechs I have never heard a more unique and better sound on a muffler. If you want loud get the sportsmans if you want super loud get the prostreets, very aggressive tone. Made my old 8:1 compression engine really come to life like it had been cammed or something.

I use Dynomax. I like the sound but if I was to replace them with a more agressive sounding muffler I would choose the Ravin Mufflers. (I think I spelled it right)

Remember that a lot of that real 'mean' sound comes from the type of cam and the headers as well.....

but with that being said, my stang with flowmasters is loud as hell, and honestly too much louder it would be pretty ridiculous.

The Flowmaster 40's on the headerd 289 2 1/4 inlet to 2 1/2 over the axle tubes sound like a BB as it rolls up next to you at a stoplight.

And the Magnaflow on the 351cj with stock manifolds and 2 1/2 pipe with crossover sounds like a Nascar.

It's more of a package deal,
matching the engine to pipe and muffler style for the sound your looking for.

You'll know it when you hear it.

I like the Hookers on a big block and the Delta Flows on the small blocks....nice, mean sound that fits the look of the Mustangs. I never really liked the spintechs, I purchased a car with them and immediately took them off in favor of the Delta 40 series. The Delta series eliminates alot of resonance which can make the interior of your car rattle badly at cruising speeds.

IMO, it's awful hard to make a stock cammed, factory headed 289 sound bada$$ in just about any situation. JMO, of course....

My '65 sounds pretty sick and is pretty damn loud at 5k. But, it's an American Thunder system made for late model Mustangs.

My unpopular opinion regarding mufflers is that all of them will only make about 5-10hp over a stock one. The best aftermarket being 10 and the worst 5. So the ONLY reason to prefer one muffler over another is the sound.

My opinion is that Magnaflows sound the best.

One of my first modifications was Hooker headers with 2.5" tubes back to flowmaster 2 chambers. This was with stock 302 and stock cam. I thought it sounded pretty decent. Definitely louder but not too loud.
Later I installed my Comp cam. It went from sounding like a mall cruiser to a race car. WAY louder and much more "racy" sounding. I like how it sounds now but it is a little obnoxious.
I would probably quiet it down if it was my daily driver.

You will not get a great sound with a stock cam.

Dynomax flow through race mufflers. These babies are probably borderline street legal! They're not very expensive either.
